Job Title: Sr. Data Scientist                         

Location: St. Petersburg, Florida. Candidates must reside in the Tampa Bay area before starting work.

Job Summary:

Luminosity, Inc. is seeking a Sr. Data Scientist with outstanding analytical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills, qualified to handle all aspects of a project – ranging from raw data cleansing/linking and basic descriptive analysis to developing predictive models and evaluating the effects of public policies. As a vital member of our data analytics team, you will support the creation of integrated datasets, lead the analysis of large, complex justice system datasets, create insightful visualizations, and contribute to our Transforming Siloed Data into Justice System Insights initiative.

Responsibilities:

Data Preparation and Collaboration

§ Contribute to the design and implementation of an efficient and reproducible data processing pipeline

§ Work closely with data integration specialists, engineers, scientists, analysts, and domain experts to standardize, transform, link, clean, merge, and match large and complex datasets across siloed justice software systems

§ Actively participate in team discussions and contribute to decision-making to ensure data strategies are well-integrated and aligned with overall project objectives

§ Work in a highly diverse and collaborative environment


Data Analysis and Interpretation

§ Analyze large, complex justice system datasets in collaboration with team members

§ Identify trends, patterns, and anomalies, contributing to a comprehensive understanding of justice-related data

§ Collaborate with team members and stakeholders to derive comprehensive insights

§ Build and rigorously evaluate statistical models using best practices of traditional statistical analysis as well as machine learning and statistical inference techniques

§ Prepare project memos, summaries, presentations, reports, and other work products for dissemination to policymakers, academic researchers, and other stakeholders


Visualization Creation and Storytelling

§ Utilize advanced visualization tools and programming languages to create effective and insightful visual representations of data

§ Develop interactive dashboards to facilitate the exploration and understanding of justice-related data

§ Craft compelling narratives and communicate insights effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

 

Education and Experience:

§ A master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field

§ Minimum of three years of professional data science experience required


Technical Skills:

Candidates for the Sr. Data Scientist position must possess knowledge and skills in the following areas:

§ Programming Languages – Expert in Python and R for advanced data analysis; deep familiarity with libraries such as Matplotlib, Seaborn, Plotly, and D3.js for visualization

§ Database Management – Intermediate knowledge and practical skills in SQL for managing and querying databases

§ Data Manipulation – Masterful at cleaning, transforming, merging, and matching large and complex datasets across different platforms and systems

§ Statistical Analysis and Modeling – Exceptional understanding of statistical modeling, machine learning, data mining, and the use of statistical analysis tools

§ Data Visualization Tools – Extensive experience and expertise with business intelligence tools like Tableau and Power BI for creating dynamic dashboards and visual representations of data


Non-Technical Skills:

§ Comprehensive analytical thinking and problem-solving skills, skilled at tackling complex data-related issues and contributing to project strategies and solutions

§ Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a diverse team environment

§ Strong leadership and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously

§ Provide guidance, mentorship, and support to team members
