Required Education:

Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent work experience in a field that develops the skills required for the functions and responsibilities of the position.

Completion of an approved paralegal program

Minimum two (2) years’ experience as a paralegal

Required Skills:

General knowledge of Medicaid and health programs a plus.

Ability to create contracts which document timelines and deliverables

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Demonstrated ability to understand and resolve complex problems and the ability to read, interpret and make recommendations based on complex state, federal and Departmental rules, laws, and regulations.

Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within multiple units and with multiple levels of personnel.

Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word

Job Responsibilities:

Draft legal documents, notices, interrogatories, motions, etc. at the direction of Medicaid legal counsel. This includes but is not limited to the compilation and organization of exhibits and files as well as the scheduling and conducting all note taking.

Drafts formal discovery requests and responses, performs legal research including statutory and case law and drafts forms, research memoranda, proposed rules, orders, and other documents.

Become familiar with local documents such as Medicaid contracts, rules, regulations, and requirements of the State of Rhode Island and the RI Medicaid program.

Assist in the drafting, review and approval process for all key legal documents, contracts, and correspondence. Ensure such review, approval, and execution are in accordance with state Medicaid law and regulations.

Prepare, organize, and maintain contract records and files documenting contract performance and compliance.

Perform legal and regulatory research and provide findings to the Director of Legal Compliance and Program Integrity upon request.

Perform several other similar or related duties which may not be specifically included within this position description, but which are consistent with the general level of the job and the responsibilities described.
