Job Description:

As a Mortgage Loss Mitigation Specialist, you will play a critical role in assisting borrowers who are facing financial hardships to explore alternative options and find solutions to mitigate potential losses for our mortgage lending institution. You will be responsible for evaluating borrower situations, analyzing financial data, and implementing strategies to minimize the risk of mortgage loan defaults. Your expertise in mortgage loss mitigation will contribute to preserving the institution's assets while helping borrowers navigate difficult financial circumstances.


Responsibilities:

·        Conduct comprehensive assessments of borrowers' financial situations to determine the root cause of their mortgage payment difficulties.

·        Analyze borrower financial documents, including income statements, bank statements, tax returns, and credit reports, to assess their ability to meet mortgage obligations.

·        Collaborate with borrowers to explore alternative payment arrangements, such as loan modifications, repayment plans, forbearance agreements, or short sales, that align with their financial capabilities and institutional guidelines.

·        Negotiate with borrowers, legal representatives, and third-party stakeholders to reach mutually beneficial agreements that minimize potential losses and help borrowers maintain homeownership whenever possible.

·        Coordinate with internal teams, such as underwriters, loan officers, and legal counsel, to gather necessary information, evaluate options, and facilitate timely decision-making.

·        Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies related to loss mitigation procedures, documentation, and reporting.

·        Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of borrower communications, agreements, and progress throughout the loss mitigation process.

·        Stay updated on industry trends, regulatory changes, and best practices in mortgage loss mitigation to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of the institution's mitigation strategies.

·        Provide clear and concise explanations to borrowers regarding loss mitigation processes, requirements, and potential outcomes.

·        Identify potential fraud risks or suspicious activities and report them to the appropriate departments for further investigation.


Qualifications

·        Preferred experience in mortgage servicing

·        Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel

·        Excellence in consulting and advising customers via telephone and written communication

·        Excellent analytical skills

·        Excellent level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others
