Education & Career Program Specialist

(Life Sciences)


University Lab Partners seeks an Education & Career Program Specialist to assist our community-focused programming. This role involves supporting the Education Program Manager in delivering educational initiatives at ULP, offering virtual and in-person biotechnology courses for high school, college, and professional students. We're seeking a strong candidate passionate about teaching and the life sciences sector.


The Education & Career Program Specialist, under the supervision of the Education Program Manager, plays a vital role within the ULP team by aiding in the creation and implementation of top-tier educational initiatives in biotechnology. This position is based on-site at UCI Research Park, situated on the third floor of the Applied Innovations building.


To be successful, you should have:

  • A Master's degree or PhD in Molecular Biology, Biology, Biological Sciences, Microbiology, Virology, or a California Community College Credential in the relevant discipline.
  • Over 5 years of industry or academic research experience in biotechnology or MedTech, involving problem-solving in biomedical fields, a strong grasp of molecular cell biology principles, and participation in biotechnology product development.
  • Hands-on experience with laboratory techniques such as pipetting, dilution methods, and aseptic techniques, along with expertise in experimental design and microbiology techniques like SDS-PAGE, ELISA, and genomic DNA/RNA isolation.
  • Additional skills in western blotting, PCR, cell culture, transfections, and immunofluorescence staining are essential. Familiarity with HPLC and flow cytometry is advantageous.

Your responsibilities as the Education & Career Program Specialist will include:

  • Develop, deliver, monitor, and update curriculum to ensure course effectiveness and conduct program evaluations.
  • Demonstrate up-to-date knowledge of relevant biotechnology skills and technologies in demand.
  • Supervise teaching assistants and lab assistants.
  • Foster a challenging yet supportive learning environment with high standards for student success.
  • Oversee equipment, supplies, and materials in the ULP Learning Laboratory.
  • Evaluate student performance and competencies.
  • Maintain accurate records, including inventory, student attendance, and performance.
  • Utilize current teaching strategies, including project-based learning and various learning modalities.
  • Exhibit sensitivity to socioeconomic and cultural diversity in the workplace, classroom, and community.
  • Fulfill additional responsibilities as assigned.
