Underwriter

Job Summary:

Handle the daily flow of business and help with the underwriting process. Provides technical and clerical support to assist the underwriting team in existing program management.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities:

Basic Functions:

• Review individual applications for insurance to evaluate degree of risk involved and determine acceptance of applications
• Review new submissions for compliance with underwriting guidelines and/or program. Examine documents to determine and evaluate degree of risk
• Rate risk and initiate quotes from carriers. Decline risks with excessive loss history.
• Prepare loss models, driver reviews and overall account evaluation to make recommendations to carriers
• Qualify risk with agents for price targets and important factors about .accounts such as coverage types, exclusions, etc
• Follow up on quotes to ask for bind orders
• Correspond with agents and follow up on items for new business or renewal accounts
• Submit bind orders to carriers and review documentation received from agents to pend task items for any documents not received, such as signed applications, supplemental applications, UM forms, etc
• Send out binders and invoices to agents
• Review renewal accounts for acceptability for program and determine what should be non- renewed 90 days prior to expiration date
• Provide general support to the team in implementing new procedures and pricing input for best practices
• Correspond with MGAs and Carriers to explain any risk peculiarities and pricing expectations
• Initiate premium audits

Education, Experience, and Other Qualifications:

• 3 to 5 years of Underwriter experience preferred
• Ability to deal with the daily distractions of an office environment
• Basic computer knowledge, Microsoft Word, and Excel
