The Cardiovascular Surgery program at Hoag performs a high volume of heart surgeries with approximately 500 open hearts per year. It is a comprehensive service line encompassing all aspects of cardiovascular surgery including valve, coronary, aortic and arrhythmia surgery and incorporating open and minimally invasive techniques. There is also an outstanding structural heart program partnering with our interventional cardiologists and a renowned aortic center which is multidisciplinary as well.

The program is involved in multiple clinical trials and is often a site for new technologies as multiple leading biotech companies are headquartered or have a strong presence in Orange county.

Jeffrey M. Carlton Heart and Vascular Institute has earned the highest distinction possible, a three-star rating out of three stars, from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) for three categories of surgery – isolated aortic valve replacement (AVR), isolated mitral valve replacement and repair (MVRR) and isolated coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG).

Qualifications:

  • Completed fellowship or integrated residency program in Cardiothoracic Surgery.
  • Board-certified in Cardiothoracic Surgery or foreign-equivalent
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience preferred, but outstanding new graduates or surgeons with less experience will be considered
  • Experience or specialized fellowship training in advanced heart failure/mechanical circulatory support or aortic surgery is desirable
  • Eligible for California State Medical licensure.
  • Passionate about providing high-quality care and able to work in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to achieve full and unrestricted hospital/surgical privileges at Hoag Hospital.
