Human Resources Manager - Position Description & Responsibilities

The company is in a significant growth mode, both organically and through consideration of possible acquisitions and affiliations. Part of the company’s strategy is to expand its’ Human Resources Department with the newly created position of Human Resources Manager.


Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Human Resources Manager, will oversee all aspects of human resources management and provide strategic leadership and guidance to the organization’s HR operations, serving as a consultant on all HR-related matters.


Position Overview

This position will lead and develop the Human Resources function and oversee people strategies including, but not limited to talent and leadership development, performance management, organizational development, compensation strategy, employee relations, and employee engagement.


This person will be responsible for developing, researching, and implementing effective human resources policies that promote a positive work environment and align with business objectives and organizational priorities. Promoting company values and shaping a positive culture is a vital aspect of this role. As a strategic partner, you will collaborate with management and teams across the organization, ensuring value-added HR operational services to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention.


Excellent collaboration and communication skills will enable you to engage employees at all levels and address hidden technical issues that impact goal attainment.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Partner with the leadership team to understand and execute the organization’s human capital and talent strategy particularly as it relates to current and future talent needs, recruiting, retention, and succession planning.
  • Lead recruitment efforts by developing effective sourcing strategies, managing the hiring process, and ensuring a positive candidate experience.
  • Oversee employee relations, including conflict resolution, performance management, and disciplinary actions.
  • Develop and implement HR policies and procedures in accordance with legal requirements and industry best practices.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to develop and execute workforce planning strategies and organizational leadership programs that support business objectives.
  • Design and deliver training programs to enhance employee skills and promote professional development.
  • Manage compensation and benefits programs to attract and retain top talent while ensuring competitiveness in the market.
  • Stay updated on HR trends, legislation, and best practices to ensure compliance and adaptability.
  • Manage HR metrics and reporting to track key performance indicators and inform decision-making.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, labor relations, organization development, business, or related field; relevant work experience may be a substitute.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in HR leadership roles, preferably in the Agriculture industry.
  • HR certification (e.g., SHRM-CP, PHR) is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of California employment law, compliance, and HR best practices.
  • Broad Human Resources generalist background with strengths in the areas of talent acquisition, employee relations, performance management, and organizational development.
  • Experience coaching, and consulting with people managers and business leaders of various levels.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and influencing skills.
  • Be intellectually curious and creative; bring valuable insight into the team/business.
  • Have a proven hands-on attitude, be flexible and adaptable, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
