Role: Delphi Developer for Web Services and Linux Migration

Location: Pittsburgh, PA/ Indiana


Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Delphi Developer to lead the modernization of our Delphi 5 web service applications currently running on IIS. The primary goal is to upgrade these applications to Delphi 11 and modify them for compatibility with Linux environments in preparation for containerization. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in Delphi development across various versions, a deep understanding of web service architecture, and a solid background in Linux system management and container technologies.


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Application Upgrade:
  • Assess existing Delphi 5 web service applications and plan their migration to Delphi 11.
  • Upgrade and rewrite codebase to be compatible with Delphi 11 while retaining functionality and performance.
  1. Linux Compatibility:
  • Modify and adapt applications and components to be fully compatible with Linux operating systems.
  • Address any platform-specific issues arising from the migration from a Windows/IIS environment to Linux.
  1. Containerization:
  • Prepare applications for deployment within Linux-based containers.
  • Work with containerization technologies, such as Docker, to package and deploy applications.
  1. Component Modernization:
  • Identify all components used in the existing applications and replace them with Linux-compatible alternatives.
  • Ensure that all third-party libraries, components, and APIs used are up-to-date and suitable for the new environment.
  1. Testing and Quality Assurance:
  • Thoroughly test migrated applications for functionality, performance, and security on Linux platforms.
  • Develop comprehensive test plans to cover all aspects of the upgraded applications.
  1. Performance Tuning:
  • Optimize applications to ensure they perform efficiently within a Linux and containerized environment.
  • Monitor system performance and make necessary adjustments to the application and environment configuration.
  1. Documentation and Training:
  • Document the migration process, changes made, and any Linux-specific deployment instructions.
  • Provide training and support to other team members on the new Delphi 11 applications and Linux deployment processes.
  1. Collaboration and Communication:
  • Work closely with IT, DevOps, and software development teams to facilitate a smooth transition to the new technology stack.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders to manage expectations and report on migration progress.


Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Extensive experience in Delphi development, with specific expertise in both Delphi 5 and Delphi 11.
  • Strong background in Linux system administration, scripting, and open-source technologies.
  • Experience with web services architecture and development, particularly with applications hosted on IIS.
  • Familiarity with containerization concepts and tools, especially Docker.
  • Ability to analyze and convert Windows-specific components to cross-platform or Linux-specific solutions.
  • Knowledge of version control systems such as Git.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Strong documentation abilities and attention to detail.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in migrating legacy Delphi applications to newer versions and different operating systems.
  • Knowledge of cloud technologies and orchestration tools like Kubernetes.
  • Experience with continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.
