POSITION PURPOSE

The Assistant Manager – Food & Beverage is a vital leadership role responsible for the daily supervision and execution of food and beverage operations at our exclusive private club. Reporting to the Food & Beverage Manager, this position emphasizes hands-on management of restaurant and banquet services to ensure seamless, high-quality experiences for our members and guests. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in hospitality operations, attention to detail, and a passion for delivering exceptional service.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Daily Operations Management:

  • Oversee day-to-day food and beverage operations in the club’s dining outlets and banquet facilities.
  • Ensure smooth and efficient service during restaurant shifts, events, and private functions.
  • Monitor staff performance and enforce standards for service excellence and professionalism.
  • Collaborate with the culinary team to ensure proper coordination of food and beverage delivery.


Event Supervision:

  • Work closely with the Banquet and Catering teams to plan and execute events, ensuring adherence to member expectations and club standards.
  • Supervise banquet setups, service, and breakdowns, ensuring all aspects of events run efficiently.
  • Provide on-site support during events, including handling member requests, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring quality control.


Staff Supervision and Training:

  • Lead and motivate a team of servers, bartenders, and banquet staff to maintain high levels of morale and performance.
  • Provide ongoing training and coaching to ensure team members meet service standards and deliver exceptional member experiences.
  • Assist in scheduling and allocating staff resources to meet operational demands.


Member and Guest Relations:

  • Build strong relationships with members to understand and exceed their expectations.
  • Respond promptly to member concerns or complaints, resolving issues effectively and professionally.
  • Maintain a visible presence in dining areas and events to ensure member satisfaction.


Operational and Financial Oversight:

  • Assist in inventory management, including ordering, receiving, and controlling food and beverage supplies.
  • Support the Food & Beverage Manager in achieving financial targets by monitoring labor costs, minimizing waste, and identifying opportunities for efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and sanitation regulations.


Collaboration and Innovation:

  • Partner with the Food & Beverage Manager to implement new initiatives and enhance member experiences.
  • Contribute ideas to improve menus, service procedures, and operational workflows.
  • Participate in regular team meetings to communicate goals, updates, and feedback.


Other:

Regular attendance in conformance with the standards, which may be established from time to time, is essential to the successful performance of this position.

Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, employees may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the Club.


Upon employment, all employees are required to fully comply with The California Club rules and regulations for the safe and effective operation of the Club’s facilities. 


SUPPORTIVE FUNCTIONS

In addition to the performance of the essential functions, this position may be required to perform a combination of the supportive functions, as determined by the manager based upon the particular requirements of the Club:

 

Working knowledge of federal, state and local laws governing equal employment opportunity and civil rights, occupational safety and health, wage and hour issues, and labor relations, including, but not limited to the following statutes and their comparable state and local laws (where applicable): Title VII, ADEA, Equal Pay Act, Pregnancy Discrimination Act, FLSA, ADA, OSHA, FMLA, and NLRA.


QUALIFICATIONS, SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES


Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management, Business Administration, or a related field (preferred).
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in food and beverage operations, with at least 1-2 years in a supervisory or assistant management role. Experience in private clubs, luxury hotels, or high-end restaurants is highly desirable.


Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and develop a team.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Exceptional communication and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in point-of-sale systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of banquet and catering operations, including setup, service styles, and event planning.

Physical Demands:

  • Most work tasks are performed indoors. Temperature is moderate and controlled by Club environmental systems; however, must be able to work in extreme temperatures like freezers (-10°F) and kitchens (+110°F), for one hour or more.
  • Must be able to sit at a desk for up to 5 hours per day. Walking and standing are required for the rest of the working day. The length of time of these tasks may vary from day to day and task to task. 
  • Must be able to exert well-paced ability to maneuver between functions occurring simultaneously. 
  • Must be able to exert well-paced ability to reach other departments of the Club on a timely basis.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, squat and stretch to fulfill cleaning tasks occasionally.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 lbs. on a regular and continuing basis.
  • Must have the ability to bend, squat and frequently lift 25 lbs. and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
  •  May be required to lift trays of food or food items weighing up to 30 lbs.
  • Must be able to push and pull carts and equipment weighing up to 250 lbs. occasionally.
  • Requires grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening, and hearing ability and visual acuity.
  • Requires manual dexterity to use and operate all necessary equipment.

All employees must maintain a neat, clean and well-groomed appearance per Club standards.
