JOB DESCRIPTION: VOICE TEACHER (ON-CAMPUS)

 

Position Summary: Voice Teachers at Point Blank Music School educate students effectively to prepare them for success as singers in the modern music industry. They teach classes as assigned by the Chief Academic Officer and follow the curriculum and guidelines presented in Point Blank’s Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). They prioritize the student experience and implement established policies and procedures designed to provide excellent vocal instruction, ensuring the institution achieves its mission.

 

Reports to: Chief Academic Officer (CAO)

 

Specific duties and responsibilities:

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver class instruction utilizing the prescribed course curriculum hosted on the VLE for courses such as Singing, Advanced Singing, Vocal Musicianship, Showcase, Studio Vocal Production, etc.
  • Follow the VLE’s lesson plan structure for instructor-led topics, in-class student exercises, and project-based homework assignments, unless deviations are approved
  • Utilize appropriate learning materials and resources where necessary to supplement lessons
  • Participate in curriculum development by completing course evaluations at the end of each term
  • Monitor student attendance and progress; assess student work and record grades as directed by the CAO according to established grading criteria
  • Attend teacher training and professional development sessions and other required institutional activities
  • Understand, implement, monitor, and fairly enforce all relevant institutional policies and procedures
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of the school’s mission and educational objectives and strive to attain them at all times
  • Within 30 days of employment, gain working knowledge of all policies pertaining to course requirements, learning outcomes, satisfactory academic progress, grading criteria, attendance, standards of conduct, and incoming student evaluations

 

Student-Centered Learning Methodology Guidelines:

  • Through your example, inspire in your students pride in artistry as well as a professional attitude towards their own musical development and work ethic
  • Project enthusiasm and excitement Utilize proper grammar and pronunciation, being mindful of tone, volume and clarity of expression
  • Present instruction in an active, engaging manner; don’t read directly from the lesson plans or notes
  • Take attendance regularly and assist with student attendance monitoring to improve student retention
  • Maintain a thorough, accurate, and current knowledge of the subject matter taught, in order to provide specialized subject information, advice, and support to students
  • Actively learn any new teaching methods introduced during Instructor Orientation, and follow them consistently
  • Vary the stimuli for learners during presentations; use body movement and gestures effectively
  • Deliver effective class presentations through the necessary practical exercises and/or project assignments, handouts, teaching aids, and equipment
  • Maintain fairness, impartiality, and respect in your dealings with all students
  • Stimulate students to think for themselves, and to research the answers to their questions for themselves; use examples for clarification
  • Adopt a student-centered approach to teaching. Practice active listening when interacting with students; listen carefully to their comments and questions. Frequently ask individualized review questions and assign activities to ascertain each student’s knowledge.
  • Ensure assignments and tests are graded promptly. Explain grading criteria to students as needed.
  • Assign leadership tasks and praise accomplishments. Redirect inattentive students by getting them involved. Give immediate feedback to students whenever possible.
  • Maintain student confidentiality. Never release private information without obtaining written consent from the student (or parent/guardian, if student is a minor)

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Three years of practical music industry work experience relevant to the subject area(s) being taught
  • Excellent oral and written communication and strong administrative/organizational skills
  • Understanding of teaching methods: planning, delivery, assessment, and evaluation of student learning

 

Preferred qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in music or a related field
  • Demonstrated teaching experience at the postsecondary level, and/or willingness to undergo training
  • Awareness of different learning strategies suitable for teaching students with a diverse range of abilities

 

General requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years old, legally authorized to work in the U.S., and able to pass a background check
  • Must observe all health, safety, and security procedures as applicable and report potentially unsafe conditions to management


Compensation:

  • Competitive pay beginning at $30 per hour and commensurate with experience and qualifications, as well as professional development opportunities including tuition remission for Point Blank courses
