Senior Research Chemist

 

Location- Norwalk, CT

King Industries, Inc. is actively seeking to hire a Senior Research Chemist. Ideal candidates should have an M.S. in Organic or Polymer Chemistry, as well as synthesis experience in an industrial setting.

 

Skills Required

  • Must have a strong background in organic synthesis.
  • Must be able to work independently.
  • Must possess strong organizational skills and be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate, and interact with process development and production engineers, customers, technical service, and sales & marketing.
  • Must be a self-starter, driven by an internal desire to succeed with a strong sense of urgency.
  • Must be an effective leader, able to drive projects from conception to commercialization.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be creative and resourceful.
  • Must be capable of becoming a recognized expert in a chosen technical field of research.
  • Must be able to carry out projects from conception to pilot plant production stage.
  • Knowledge of various online chemical literature and patent database software and search techniques is highly desirable. Strong literature searching skills.
  • Must be able to research new projects by accessing the current technical literature and develop and write new project proposals.
  • Must be able to publish original research in leading scientific journals, and to present such information at technical conferences and American Chemical Society National Meetings.
  • Must be familiar with ISO-9001-2015 “Design Control” policies and guidelines.

 

Education and Experience Requirements

  • M.S. in Organic or Polymer Chemistry.
  • Preferred 7+ yrs. synthesis experience in industrial setting.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop new products with desired performance (cost/performance) benefits.
  • Research, plan, and design experiments aimed at developing new products with minimum supervision.
  • Solve specific technical problems relating to new products and improving existing technologies.
  • Conduct literature and patent searches and write new product proposals and briefs.
  • Prepare product development plans with specific synthesis approaches.
  • Work with sales and marketing and specific customers regarding technical and performance requirements (cost/benefits) for new products in specific applications.
  • Write reports documenting progress of assigned research projects as needed.
  • Give periodic presentations to upper management on the progress of assigned research projects. 
  • Work with the Product Regulatory Department and gain a working knowledge of global regulatory compliance issues. Where feasible, focus on new product targets that may be compliant with global inventories.
  • Perform laboratory synthetic reactions and spectroscopic identification of materials.
  • Work with the technical service group to conduct preliminary performance testing in order to establish initial product performance in industry recognized formulations and test methods.
  • Prepare manufacturing process description/transmittals for new products. Interface with Pilot plant engineers/production engineers in the scale-up process of new products.
  • Interact with marketing and technical service personnel to promote new products and provide technical assistance to customers.
  • Write technical reports, new product literature (technical data sheets and presentations), record of invention and publications.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of new raw materials, new technologies, customers’ needs, technology trend and competitive products.
  • Present summaries of research progress at internal meetings (R&D, sales, marketing).
