Electrical/Sensor Design Engineer

 

 

The Role

 

Interlink Electronics Inc., a Nasdaq listed company, is a global sensor technology and printed electronics solution provider with a diverse portfolio of sensor technologies including force, piezoelectric, gas and environmental sensors and products. We are seeking an Electrical Engineer with strong sensor experience and a college degree to join our team in the Bay Area. The ideal candidate should have good electrical design skills as well as an extensive sensor background. Experience with embedded firmware is a big advantage (C+/C++) along with knowledge and experience of the use of microcontrollers for sensor applications and platform development. You will part of a small R&D team architecting, specifying, developing, characterizing, and validating sensor systems used in these platforms. In addition, you need to be able to work both independently and as part of a global engineering team supporting creation of custom sensor solutions. This role will require close interaction with other engineers, customers, and management in ensuring sensor solutions are delivered to customers’ expectations. It may also require technical engagement with customers to support new business opportunities. Occasional travel may be required to support engineering tasks and key customer relationships.

 

 

Main duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Become knowledgeable in all Interlink’s sensor portfolio – FSR, piezo, gas & environmental
  • Bring your knowledge of other sensor systems to support integration with current technology when appropriate
  • Support research of new sensor technologies and development tools
  • Work with the global engineering team in overall definition, development, and integration of sensor systems
  • Create schematics and design/layout PCBs for sensor projects
  • Design circuitry and components with specific characteristics to fit within specified limits and to perform according to specifications
  • Support sensor embedded FW and algorithm development
  • Build, test, and validate sensor designs to customer requirements
  • Participate in design reviews and validate prototypes
  • Use failure mode analysis, root cause analysis and system level problem solving to ensure optimum design
  • Specify, select and qualify active and passive components, develop and benchmark system performance models, develop and implement test procedures, evaluate and select appropriate test instrumentation
  • Ensure product quality standards and specifications are met
  • Ensure all design and test specifications are meticulously documented
  • Lead new sensor projects when required and build, test and validate prototypes and bring concepts to fruition
  • Monitor and ensure key milestones are met and resolve conflicts of time, scope, and resources as needed
  • Support broader sustaining electrical engineering requirements when required
  • Support sales and customers with sensor expertise
  • Work with Operations team to ensure smooth product releases and new product introduction
  • Prepare status reports regarding current projects as needed

 

 

Experience

 

  • Fundamental knowledge and experience in physics, mechanical, electrical, material science, and manufacturing technology related to sensor design
  • Experience with electronic sensor and transducer design and measurement systems
  • Expert knowledge of electrical circuit theory, embedded electronics, sensors, transducers, and wireless data transfer protocols such as Bluetooth
  • Understanding of embedded firmware / software development and working, as well as willingness and ability to learn this skill at a basic level to support overall solution delivery
  • Experience with physical characterization of sensors
  • Experience completing proof of concept validation to apply existing sensor technologies to new applications
  • Experience with design of experiments and lab test procedures strongly desired
  • System level integration experience
  • Experience with electronic manufacturing of rigid and flex PCB including SMT
  • Experience with high volume mass production a benefit
  • Experience using lab equipment such as digital scope, logic analyzer, and soldering skills
  • Experience with technical document writing using Visio, Word, Excel, and/or PowerPoint
  • Experience with Revision control/Document control


Qualifications & Skills:


  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
  • 5-7 years’ hardware experience
  • Computer skills using latest electrical design tools (Altium) as well as modelling and simulation tools such as MATLAB, SPICE or similar
  • DFx (Design for cost, test, manufacturing) experience
  • LabView experience also an advantage
  • Basic experience with firmware development platforms generally used in sensor-based systems

Salary range $115 - $130K based on experience
