Director, Master Data Management and Data Governance

As the Director of Master Data Management and Data Governance, you will report to the Sr. Director of Data & Engineering Planning & Governance and be responsible for managing the master data management strategy and technology platforms to support the business and data strategy across all business verticals including Commercial, Clinical, Manufacturing, supply chain, accounting, and finance. You will partner and collaborate with data governance and technology leads across the enterprise to establish data governance standards and practices and implement them on data and information governance systems.


Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Master Data Management
  • Develop and execute the master data management (MDM) strategy aligned to the business strategy and goals, develop MDM capability and technology roadmaps, and focusing on the priority business needs.
  • Collaborate with portfolio managers, business engagement leads, data management leads and data product owners to identify and collect master data management requirements.
  • Implement, support, and maintain technology platforms and software solutions to satisfy master data management requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional business and technology teams to establish master data management standards, architecture, and frameworks.
  • Manage the technology team running the MDM technology and platforms.
  • Establish data quality processes to ensure high quality and integrity of foundational master data sets across business functions.


Data & Information Governance

  • Develop and execute the data and information governance technology strategy aligned to the business strategy and goals, support data governance processes and operating model for our company.
  • Provide thought leadership, frameworks, best practices, and subject matter expertise in data & information governance and knowledge management technology across business verticals.
  • Conduct or participate in meetings, workshops, and interviews with business and DTE stakeholders to understand current state Data Governance and Management maturity and pain points in support of building a future state data governance platform strategy and roadmap.
  • Identify, document, and prioritize data governance use cases that will support the business strategy and technology roadmaps.
  • Implement, maintain, and support data and information governance platform strategy and roadmaps.
  • Manage the technology team running and supporting data governance processes and platforms.
  • Assess, recommend, and implement capabilities related to business and technical metadata, data lineage, data profiling, data asset curation, and data quality improvement efforts.
  • Manage relationships with the strategic software vendors and service providers providing technology solutions and ongoing operational support for the master data management and data governance area.
  • Work closely with DTE Compliance, Data Privacy, Data Security and Quality Assurance groups as needed to ensure compliance with all appropriate regulations, as well as our DTE system lifecycle and change management requirements.


Knowledge And Skills

  • Strong Master Data Management and Data governance knowledge and experience in the biopharmaceutical industry
  • In-depth knowledge of foundational biopharma master data sets across multiple domains.
  • Expertise in master data management system architecture and data integrations.
  • Experience with leading implementation and operations of MDM platforms like Informatica, Reltio etc.
  • In-depth knowledge of data governance, data and knowledge management concepts, approaches, and tools and the role of data governance in the successful implementation of data strategy.
  • Experience with leading implementations and operations of data governance platforms like Collibra
  • Ability to explain the value of data governance and supporting technology to both business and technical stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding and awareness of data privacy, data security and compliance to relevant rules
  • Advanced analytical, problem solving, negotiation and organizational skills with demonstrated ability to multi-task, organize, prioritize, and meet deadlines.
  • Strong written/oral communication and presentation skills
  • Strong knowledge of modern technologies like cloud computing, cybersecurity, data platforms like AWS, Snowflake and Databricks
  • Project management, demand management, resource management and system life cycle expertise
  • Prior experience with running IT managed services or outsourced/ offshore teams
  • Superior MS Office skills, including MS Project & Visio, Excel and PowerPoint Experience
  • Strong experience in Agile methodology


Education And Experience

  • Bachelor's degree required (preferably in technology discipline).
  • 10+ years’ experience working in growing technology roles with at least 6 years in IT leadership positions.
  • 6+ years’ experience in Master Data Management and Data Governance preferably in the life sciences and/or healthcare industry
