Waugh PLLC is looking for an attorney who wants to be a great lawyer with a diverse set of skills. The ideal candidate will be willing to learn three different, but sometimes overlapping practice areas: (1) real estate and corporate law; (2) litigation; and (3) city, county, and local government law. This involves learning how to litigate, going into courtrooms, drafting and arguing motions, while also gaining experience and skills as a transactional attorney, drafting agreements and negotiating contacts. It also involves learning about how local governments work, writing and amending laws, and helping to counsel our government clients. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who wants to learn different things and enjoys a challenge.


Responsibilities

  • Provide legal support to clients and assist managing partner Christian W. Waugh;
  • Drafting notices, motions, orders, and pleadings for both state and federal court cases, including cases of national importance;
  • Appear and argue at hearings in state and federal court, often by Zoom or MS Teams;
  • Maintain client relationships;
  • Act as an Assistant City Attorney for Florida municipalities, counseling decision-makers on the Florida Constitution, important Florida statutes, such as the Sunshine Law, and applicable City codes;
  • Draft purchase and sale agreements for high-end residential properties and commercial properties ranging from $1m-50m in sale price;
  • Advise large publicly-traded companies on the development of their real estate portfolios in Florida; and
  • Negotiate and draft complex loan documents, partnership agreements, and real estate investment documents, among other things.


Required Qualifications

  • Juris Doctorate degree from ABA-accredited law school;
  • Admission to the Florida Bar;
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Strong legal knowledge and willingness to learn;
  • Residence in Florida.


Preferred Qualifications

  • 0-3 years experience as a practicing attorney;
  • Desire to practice litigation, real estate, and/or government law; and
  • Desire to read useful books, join firm book club, and improve legal scholarship.
