  • Minimum 3 years of background investigation experience; law enforcement experience preferred.

Johns Hopkins Public Safety is seeking an Applicant Processor/Investigator to support the implementation of the new Johns Hopkins Police Department’s recruitment and hiring.

The position will work in a team environment and will report to the Public Safety Human Resources Office.

The position will be responsible for all aspects of applicant processing as well as administrative tasks as assigned.

  • Coordinates the administrative process of setting up applicant background investigation files
  • Conduct METERS, NCIC LInX and other law enforcement records checks.
  • Conducts applicant law enforcement database checks; NCIC, CJIS, LINX, and METERS
  • Coordinates and schedules applicants for the polygraph examination
  • Coordinates and schedules applicant Livescan fingerprinting
  • Prepares the applicant file for background investigation assignment
  • Assist with applicant concierge assistance throughout the hiring process.
  • Coordinates with third-party service providers to schedule the medical (CDS) and psychological examinations
  • Coordinates and facilitates criminal history fingerprints for the purpose of Maryland Police Training Commission certification.
  • Review correspondence and answer inquiries related to the background process
  • Maintain applicant background investigation files; and assist in coordinating testing of applicants.
  • Provides customer service to applicants, other law enforcement agencies, and internal and external stakeholders.

  • Coordinates and schedules applicant Livescan fingerprinting.

Minimum Requirements:

  • A minimum of three (3) years of investigative/applicant processing experience in either law enforcement or other related field
  • High School Diploma

Experience/Certification:

  • Experience conducting comprehensive public safety pre-employment background investigations.
  • CN2 Certification/NCIC, CJIS, METERS, LInX (preferred)
  • Knowledge of the law enforcement applicant hiring process (MPCTC)
  • Experience writing confidential background investigation reports
  • Knowledgeable of local, state, and Federal laws related to the disclosure of information, and the collection of background information
  • Experience with data entry
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively with others
  • Excellent organizational skills
