VP of Technology for young start-up company

100% onsite, North Dallas, TX 75251

Salary: Up to $250K


The ideal candidate comes from a Cloud/DevOps or data engineering background, who wants to move into a VP role. Strong project management and active engagement with vendors and team members needed.

Managing 3 people at first but the team will grow.

Previous management of at least 5-10 people.


POSITION SUMMARY:

The VP of Technology position provides leadership for all aspects of technology management, including software development, data science and analytics, production systems support, cloud and infrastructure operations, and cybersecurity. This position is a key senior management team member for developing, managing, and achieving overall business goals.

The responsibilities include technology strategic planning, software product management, software engineering, cloud infrastructure management, technology management processes, and outside partner oversight. Additional responsibilities include supporting marketing and sales efforts, delivering exceptional customer service, and providing IT services to Parent company.

The position is office-based in our client’s Dallas, TX office.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Collaborate with Senior Management in establishing business-wide strategic and annual operating objectives.
  2. Develop Technology Strategic plans and budgets to achieve strategic and annual operating goals. Stay abreast of significant technology market trends and innovations to incorporate as appropriate into these technology strategies and plans.
  3. Partner with Operations and Client Service management peers to deliver exceptional service to Clients.
  4. Develop, implement, and regularly report Technology Performance metrics or KPIs on platform availability, software engineering productivity, software quality assurance, technology cost performance, and similar to reflect Technology-wide performance.
  5. Develop and manage annual Technology budgets and report performance per business requirements. Provide cost forecasting as needed to support business unit financial planning.
  6. Manage software architectural design to continually advance the technology platform and services. Use techniques such as Domain-Driven Design, architectural design languages, containerization, and architecture patterns to produce highly scalable and available cloud-based architectures within the platform.
  7. Establish and manage Microsoft stack-centric software engineering by establishing and managing performance according to agile software development methodologies, design and documentation standards, coding standards, and similar standards. Leverage Confluence for all documentation and JIRA for Agile user stories, sprint planning, and sprint execution.
  8. Manage existing data science and analytics team members by ensuring the development and use of semantic data models, unified data modeling techniques, Power BI data visualization tools, and MS Fabric enterprise end-to-end analytics platform.
  9. Provide Product Management leadership via a product stakeholders approach to building detailed Product Roadmaps that support business plans. Provide product requirements and acceptance criteria to the development team via an Agile Product Owner role with Confluence and Jira tools.
  10. Establish and manage software quality assurance by establishing and managing performance to defect tracking and reporting, software test case development, manual testing, and automated testing. Establish and implement core Software testing tools such as xUnit, MS Test Framework, and similar.
  11. Manage technology infrastructure by using modern performance and cost-oriented approaches, such as server-less computing, elastic scaling, and other cloud-based services approaches to virtual infrastructure.
  12. Manage and establish DevOps capability for Continuous Integration Continuous Development (CICD) methodology using containerized architectures, deployment pipelines, software scanning, automated testing, and similar techniques.
  13. Establish and manage IT Service delivery to parent company using a shared services model for these enterprise-wide technology needs. Collaboratively manage sharing services such as Help Desk, Cloud Support, and others as needed with peer business units.
  14. Manage Cybersecurity technical controls and coordinate with parent company on Cybersecurity policies and information Security items such as policy development, security scanning, penetration testing, and pursuit of certifications SOC and any industry-specific requirements.
  15. Provide evaluation, selection, oversight, and performance management of Technology vendors and partners.
  16. Recruit, hire, and manage Technology employees' performance. Provide employees with clear objectives, weekly checkpoints with feedback, and performance evaluations.
  17. Develop career paths for specific Technology job families such as Software Engineer, Data Scientist, Software Quality Assurance Engineer, and Cloud Engineer.
  18. Maintain complete confidentiality of company business.


QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, or similar technical area.

Master’s degree in business management or technology management a plus

5+ years’ experience at the top technology leader level in developing, implementing, and operating Azure-hosted and data-intensive SaaS technology platforms used for core services to clients in for-profit businesses

10+ years overall experience in Microsoft stack-centric software engineering and software quality assurance for Azure-hosted revenue-producing technology products/platforms. Direct experience with Microsoft .Net Core, MS SQL, Kubernetes Containerization, and modern UI Frameworks such as React, Angular, Vue, or similar.

5+ years in Agile-based software development with team roles including Scrum Master, Product Owner, Developers, and Software Quality Assurance Engineers. Direct experience with Atlassian tools (Confluence and JIRA) for document and workflow management in such development experience.

3+ years’ experience with Data Science and analytics using Power BI for data modeling, data visualization, and data management using Power BI and MS SQL. Recent exposure to MS Fabric a plus.

3+ years’ experience with Azure cloud services, including Virtual Machines, Managed SQL, Azure, DevOps, Azure Kubernetes Services (AKS), Azure WAF, Virtual Network Manager, Azure Blob, and

Direct software quality assurance experience using automated testing tools such as xUnit, MS Test Framework, Selenium, X-Ray, Test Complete, Ranorex, Gherkin, or similar.

Experience working with Product Management teams in developing product/platform visions, roadmaps, UI/UX experiences, and driving development via Agile Product Owner concept.

Demonstrated experience with Cybersecurity technical controls, Secure Software Development, and core understanding of Security frameworks such as CIS-18.

Experience with platform monitoring and alerting tools. Datadog experience a plus.

Demonstrated action-oriented leadership style that is solution-focused and time-sensitive for key business and customer needs.

Demonstratable strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work at peer-level with C-level executives and interface with Board or Investors as required.

Ability to work in the dynamic setting of high visibility deadlines that may change as needed for client or business conditions.

Proficient in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Project, and Outlook.
