Wire Harness Fabrication

Position Overview:

Join our team as an Electrical Assembly Technician, specializing in the assembly and testing of wire harnesses and electrical components for mission-critical aerospace systems. This role demands precision craftsmanship, adherence to aviation standards, and experience with specialized tools and processes. Primary responsibilities include fabricating wire harnesses, crimping contacts and splices, shield terminations, and conducting basic electrical tests, all guided by detailed engineering drawings and schematics.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Wire Harness Assembly:
  • Measure, cut, strip, and prepare aerospace-grade wires (e.g., MIL-SPEC SAE AS22759) for routing and bundling.
  • Assemble wire harnesses using proper techniques for crimping, splicing, and shield terminations.
  • Crimp contacts, terminals, and splices using Daniels Manufacturing Corporation (DMC) tools, ratcheting crimpers, or pneumatic crimpers.
  • Secure wiring with lacing cords, cable ties, and heat shrink tubing for aviation-grade durability.
  • Electrical Component Integration:
  • Install wires and electrical components into aircraft panels, modules, and subassemblies.
  • Conduct pin insertions and extractions into MIL-SPEC connectors using specialized tools.
  • Perform shield terminations with bands, backshells, and solder sleeves per engineering drawings.
  • Testing and Troubleshooting:
  • Conduct continuity and resistance testing using multimeters and circuit testers.
  • Verify proper wire routing and connectivity per wiring diagrams and test procedures.
  • Identify and resolve wiring discrepancies, ensuring assemblies meet IPC/WHMA-A-620 and AS9100 standards.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
  • Record progress, testing results, and certifications in compliance with aerospace manufacturing documentation requirements.
  • Review and verify drawings for accuracy, reporting discrepancies to leads or supervisors.
  • Workplace and Safety Standards:
  • Maintain a clean, organized work area and ensure all tools meet aerospace calibration requirements.
  • Adhere to strict safety and quality protocols inherent to aviation and aerospace applications.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
  • High school diploma or GED; technical training in electronics, avionics, or wire harness assembly preferred.
  • Experience:
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in wire harness assembly, particularly in aerospace, defense, or avionics industries.
  • Familiarity with aircraft systems and MIL-SPEC standards.
  • Skills and Competencies:
  • Proficiency in wire crimping, splicing, shield terminations, and routing using aviation tools.
  • Ability to interpret and work from engineering drawings, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
  • Experience with continuity and resistance testing.
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to producing high-quality work for critical applications.
  • Tools and Materials Knowledge:
  • Hand Tools: Wire strippers, torque wrenches, DMC crimpers, insertion/extraction tools, heat guns, and solder sleeves.
  • Test Equipment: Multimeters, circuit testers, and resistance testers.
  • Materials: MIL-SPEC wiring, connectors, backshells, and splices.
