Senior Estimator

Location: Bakersfield


We are currently representing a well-established organization with over five decades of experience as an industrial contractor specializing in petrochemical, power generation, heavy industrial, manufacturing, and processing facilities with a focus on sustainability.


They pride themselves on a family-feel culture, working by their values of teamwork, safety, and excellence. Due to an exciting new project, they are expanding their team and looking for a Senior Estimator to join their team in Bakersfield.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze information regarding upcoming projects and work to be performed, then identify the project scope including required manpower, equipment, materials costs, and deadlines.
  • Participate in on-site visits to assess the project scope, as well as any physical or environmental considerations that might impact the bid.
  • Thoroughly examine bid packages, including bid documents, plans, blueprints, and drawings to calculate all associated costs.
  • Acquire cost estimates from subcontractors and vendors by specifying necessary materials, identify qualified subcontractors, and negotiate the contracts.
  • Prepare job estimates and bid proposals for small to medium projects.
  • Resolve discrepancies in costs from items purchased to the estimated amount.
  • Conduct quantity takeoffs from drawings and blueprints.


Previous experience:

  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in estimating industrial, oil & gas, or civil construction projects. (Public works experience is preferred).
  • Bachelor's degree in mathematics, economics, engineering, or construction management.
  • Previous experience, and excellent knowledge of construction practices in power plants, refineries, and industrial environments.
  • Strong mathematics skills.
  • Previous experience using estimating software.
  • Knowledge of developing accurate budgets and bid proposals.
  • Strong communication skills, must be able to build and maintain positive vendor relationships.
  • Previous experience is required in creating clear estimate and progress reports to clients.
