Medical Billing Clerk

Contract to Hire- 6-month contract and can convert to full-time.

Nashville, TN - Hybrid 1-2 days onsite.

The role of the medical billing clerk involves performing accounting and billing tasks to facilitate the processing of medical claims for laboratory services. Each clerk is assigned specific patients and is accountable for ensuring accuracy and timeliness in billing procedures, as well as maintaining accounts receivable within departmental guidelines. Effective communication with colleagues, patients, and insurance representatives is essential. The position demands strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask effectively.

Responsibilities:

• Process billable charges for assigned patients every month.
• Conduct necessary follow-up actions on monthly claims, including re-billing, secondary billing, corrections, and addressing denials.
• Perform monthly collections processes for account balances.
• Update billing records with pertinent notes on billing and collections activities.
• Execute adjustment transactions when required.
• Maintain aging balances in compliance with accepted collection standards.
• Complete insurance verifications and pre-authorizations.
• Update patient demographics as needed.

Qualifications:

• A High School diploma or equivalent is mandatory.
• Preference is given to candidates with a background in Medicare, Medicaid, Third Party billing, and accounting.
• Strong organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail are essential.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel is required.
• Demonstrated proficiency in written and verbal communication.
• Comfortable with learning and utilizing computers and various medical billing applications.
• While experience in clinical laboratory billing is preferred, it is not mandatory.
• Excellent customer service skills, particularly in interactions with patients, business contacts, and client employees, are expected.
