Position Summary:
This position is a salaried Mine Manager that will be working at a dredge sand mining & classifying operation with non-union hourly employees. The plant and dredge operate two (2) shifts per day and at times one (1) to two (2) shifts per day on the weekends. This includes a night shift.
Responsibilities for these positions will include Safety & Management of the employees, quality control of the finished products, mine development, plant & pit (dredge) operations, mobile & fixed equipment operations, scheduling & planning of repair/maintenance, and housekeeping.
Note: This is a hands-on position at times enabling the candidate to excel in our industry.
Responsibilities:
- Actively Promote E.R. Jahna’s Core Standards of Safety, People, Quality, Delivery and Cost.
- Use the well-established Jahna DDS (Daily Directional Setting) Meetings along with the fundamentals of our SPQDC (Safety, People, Quality, Delivery, and Cost) culture to manage all aspects of the daily business.
- Maintain a safe working environment, safe working practices and ensure all safety notification & reporting processes are in place.
- Number one goal: “Every employee goes home in the same or better condition than they arrived to work”. Zero accidents, injuries, or occupational illnesses.
- Provide coaching, motivation, leadership, and support to plant & dredge personnel to ensure the development of a high-performance team while managing personnel issues.
- Develop action plans and measures to meet and/or exceed budgeted production and cost goals.
- Manage the plant and dredge operations to achieve maximum productivity and availability at the lowest cost per ton.
- Manage personnel issues to include hiring, training, development, morale, and terminations.
- Ability to work with all levels of the workforce (Hourly, Plant & Area Management and Senior Management) to achieve organizational goals.
- Manage, develop and administer thorough, effective capital expenditures and asset maintenance processes for the plant.
- Maintain product quality above industry standards.
- Work ethically, practice good business judgment and conform to all state and federal laws as well as follow and enforce all E.R. Jahna’s standards and policies.
Promote and support E.R. Jahna’s active community business partnership.
- Other duties as assigned or required to meet performance and safety requirements.
- Ability to work and travel to other mine locations as needed for training and back-up.
Qualifications & Education Requirements:
Minimum of 3 years of supervisory or management experience in a salaried role in the mining industry. Also, a minimum of 4 - 7 years industry related experience, preferably in fine aggregate operations w/dredging, pumping, screening, classification, and material handling experience. BS in engineering, geological sciences or construction technology preferred, but not required.
Minimum of a High School Diploma and further education (Military, College or Trade School) preferred.
Demonstrated leadership and management abilities to manage and motivate plant personnel.
Must possess strong mechanical and problem-solving skills.
Possess computer skills utilizing Microsoft applications, JD Edwards, ADP, and AggQC application knowledge a plus.
Must hold FDOT and GDOT Field and Laboratory Aggregate Technician Qualifications or ability to obtain within 6 months of employment.
Must have a valid driver’s license, a good driving history, and be able to maintain less than 4 points on their driver’s license at all times.
Must possess good mechanical knowledge & abilities to plan, schedule, and execute a world class maintenance program.
Must be organized, dedicated, and possess good communication skills, both written and verbal.
Must convey a positive attitude and be continually focused on satisfying internal company requirements.
Must possess excellent organizational skills, analytical ability, written and verbal communication skills.
Other Specifications and Requirements:
- Must observe and comply with all Safety policies and procedures.
- Complete safety, health, and task training. (i.e. MSHA Part 46, First Aid, and CPR).
- Assist plant operations and maintenance personnel as required.
- Perform other tasks associated with the job.
- Operate other electrical and mechanical tools.
- General knowledge of safety, environmental and other federal, state, and local regulations.
- General knowledge of machinery and equipment mechanics.
- Complete assigned training as required.
- Fulfill other jobs as required.
- Meet/exceed the company safety standards.
- Ability/willingness to travel overnight to other mine locations in and out of state.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls. The employee is continually required to walk, sit, climb or balance, and occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, listen and smell.
The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Note: This employee drives a company vehicle.
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works outside in adverse weather conditions. The employee frequently works near loud moving mechanical parts, frequently exposed to wet, hot and/or humid conditions, and exposed to vibration.
Employees must follow all safety guidelines throughout designated shift. Must wear minimum 6" steel toe boots, safety vest, eye protection, hard hat and additional PPE as required.
