At Clorox, we are seeking a qualified candidate for a Mechanical Technician/EIC position at our Houston, TX facility. Responsible for total EIC technical stewardship of all equipment to achieve production reliability, continuously improve in a safe manner. This position will be part of our Maintenance Team reporting to the Plant Engineer with a dotted line responsibility to our IT Support group. This person will provide solutions to often difficult problems using in-depth knowledge of plant operations, PLC software, VFDs, and operating systems. This work spans across the plant including Production, Process, Maintenance, and Building Operations including Security Systems. This role will provide key leadership in our rollout of Manufacturing Execution System (MES). Finally, this role utilizes specialized knowledge, requires a high level of ownership, must be a leader and a doer.
Starting Hourly rate: $33.76. We offer an excellent compensation and benefits package.
- Lead the EIC technical support of entire plant operations including but not limited to packaging, process, palletizing areas, and plant equipment such as air compressors. This includes but is not limited to serving as the plant Network System Resource (NSR), Plant IT/OT system, PLCs, VFDs, Servers, Workstations, Fire Alarm Systems, and Security and surveillance system.
- An individual assigned to this role is encouraged to take initiative on equipment/system deficiencies and be a self-starter while at the same time responsive to perform duties as assigned by the Maintenance Lead and Managers.
- Troubleshoot basic electrical problems throughout the plant. This includes taking voltage and amp readings, tracing wiring, evaluating relays, testing motors, evaluating health of wiring, checking breakers and fuses, evaluating sensors, and solenoids. If a problem is found, resolve proper course of action, and safely implement it.
- Troubleshooting PLC problems. This includes connecting to the PLC, determining what component in the PLC or external to it is not functioning properly, determining the course of action, and safely implementing it.
- Troubleshooting motor and motor control problems. This includes determining if a motor, a motor starter, run relay, VFD or servo motor is functioning properly and is configured properly. If there is a problem, determine the proper course of action and safely implement it. The technician needs to have a thorough knowledge of all VFD’s, and Servo motors used in the plant.
- Inspect, test, troubleshoot, repair, install, and maintain electrical equipment including but not limited to: motors (all types), starters, breakers, transformers, isolation switches, relays, fuses, resistors, AC Drives, DC Drives, electrical cable, fiber optic cable, coaxial cable, conduit, receptacles, PLCs, heaters, control panels, lighting panels, distributive controls, UPS, fire & emergency alarms, utility controls.
- Provide EIC expertise to support plant and corporate led projects and initiatives.
- Provide Electrical Safety training and recertification Safety training to all plant operation and maintenance associates. Support LOTO training with HSE coordinator.
- Review and audit site Electrical Safety Program annually.
- Technically lead the EIC related effort to better enable plant associates to understand and address equipment issues. Provide technical leadership within the plant and foster the development/training of plant associates, and maintenance resources, to foster the right capabilities in the plant.
- Provides thorough and practical solutions to technical problems. Demonstrates proficiency in analytical problem-solving and the transfer of knowledge to others.
- VFD programming/troubleshooting utilizing knowledge of Allen Bradley PLC – 5, SLC-500, and Drives, Rockwell Software RSLogix, and Rosemount transducers as an example.
- Develop long term strategy for EIC maintenance, upgrade, and replacement.
- Plan and coordinate major maintenance event of EIC system with other teams, Contractors, and third party.
- Other team duties as assigned by the Team Lead, Plant Engineer and IT Group.
Key Skills, Abilities, And Experience Required
- Must have a solid understanding of PLC programming (Rockwell Software), Electrical Safety and Maintenance background to know mechanical systems.
- Self-directed, self-starter and a standout colleague.
- Strong knowledge of AC and DC theory, photo eyes, motor control, computer networks, ladder logic, breakers, fuses, proximity and limit switches, and relays
- Ability to develop a work plan and execute against it safely.
- Ability to drive continuous improvements leveraging Lean Manufacturing Processes
- Advanced Analytical/Troubleshooting skills
- Excellent knowledge of manufacturing control and communication system network.
- Sound written and verbal communication skills including computer knowledge of MS Office, Email.
- Adhere to all Good manufacturing practices requirements and engineering standards.
- Flexibility in schedule and work assignments, able to work overtime hours as a business needs arise.
- Demonstrated ability to provide excellent support while fostering strong relationships among engineering and other business functions.
- Ability to lead project teams and successfully operate within larger project/program teams, and with all levels of plant organizations.
- Physically able to lift 50 pounds, climb ladders, use aerial lifts or elevated platform.
