Friends of FAFG, Inc. is a not-for-profit corporation with 501(c)3 tax exemption that has over 13 years of experience implementing successful international projects that have promoted the application of forensic sciences to investigate human rights abuses and enforced disappearance in countries such as Guatemala, El Salvador, Colombia, Mexico, Burma, Sudan, Ethiopia, and Syria.

 

Responsibilities

Financial

  • Support all financial processes, including accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and expense reconciliations
  • Monthly management of expense reports and allocation of allowable costs across diverse grants, projects, and funding sources
  • Monthly data entry in QuickBooks for Nonprofits.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Program Officer for the preparation of monthly and quarterly financial reports for federal grant awards, subcontracts, and projects.
  • Support Friends of FAFG leadership with budget forecasting and financial management, ensuring alignment with institutional goals
  • Manage organizational cash flow and prepare monthly payment requests for federal awards, subcontracts, and other projects.
  • Proactively review and strengthen existing financial procedures, procurement protocols, and internal controls
  • Maintain proper documentation of contracts, purchases, and expenses
  • Work with Senior Program Officer and Bookkeeper to prepare for institutional audits and ensure compliance with GAAP and nonprofit financial regulations.
  • Track donations received and follow up with individual donors.


Procurement

  • Make institutional purchases following appropriate procurement policies and regulations.
  • Manage contracts and price negotiations with vendors and service providers


Compliance

  • Work with Friends of FAFG leadership to review and strengthen institutional policies that ensure compliance with U.S. Government standards, including, but not limited to, 2 CFR 200 Uniform Guidance
  • Work with non-governmental donors to ensure compliance with specific grant requirements
  • Collaborate with Friends of FAFG staff to prepare for periodic donor reviews and audits of institutional policies and procedures and develop plans to incorporate any recommended changes
  • Oversee and provide feedback on compliance mechanisms and policies of subrecipients of Friends of FAFG, Inc. awards.


Grant Management

  • Review and approve monthly payment requests from subrecipients of Friends of FAFG, Inc. awards
  • Review and approve quarterly financial reports received from subrecipients
  • Conduct periodic risk assessments of Friends of FAFG, Inc. subrecipients and inform management of any findings.


 

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of relevant experience in accounting, financial management, and compliance, preferably in the non-profit sector
  • Direct experience with the implementation of U.S. Government funding and understanding of 2 CFR 200 guidelines
  •  B.A. in non-profit management, accounting, finance, or another relevant field. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Understanding of Intuit QuickBooks and basic bookkeeping, including fund accounting preferred
  • General understanding and interest in global transitional justice issues, including enforced disappearances
  • Spanish language proficiency preferred
