Thank you for stopping by to take a look at the Systems Analyst role I posted on LinkedIN. If you have read my job descriptions before, you will know that I like to add some humor to these things. If you are new to my JD's, welcome to the party.


Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Tom Welke. I am Partner & Vp at RSM Solutions Inc and I have been recruiting technical talent for over 22 years (it was 22 in January) and been in the tech sector since the 1990s. The reason I mention this is that I am far more focused on 'fit' than anything else...a fit for you and a fit for the client.


So, you might ask...what makes a good 'social fit' for this role? Well, I am glad you asked. Here are some of those key characteristics:

  • This is an environment where EQ is just as important as IQ. Yep, we need someone 'smart', but we also need that person that can 'read a room', not just ask the right questions of stakeholders, but also know how to pivot off of the answers. As most people in roles like this know, what a stakeholder says they 'need' and what they actually need are sometimes two different things.
  • The hiring manager for this role is actually a good friend of mine. He is direct, yet collaborative. So, he enjoys people who are to the point, but also like to ask good questions and first 'seek to understand...then to be understood' (those of you reading this that are Steven Covey fans will know what I am saying).
  • This firm thrives on insatiable curiosity & participation in meetings. So, we are looking for that person that always likes to ask that question 'why'....that person that really enjoys sharing what they are working on and what they can do to help other parts of the enterprise.


This is a contract role that can go contract to hire. The contract period will last roughly 6-12 months.


I am ONLY able to work with US Citizens or Green Card Holders for this role.


For the love of all that is good and pure, if you are an external vendor trying to empty your bench, please do not send my 30 messages saying 'you have an ideal candidate'. I am not working with external vendors on this role....no 3rd parties please. If you are a candidate and want to submit your resume, and happen to have an employer, that is ok. We are seeking candidates that are within driving distance to Chicago. Ideally, we are seeking this role to be a hybrid role. We are not set, however, on the number of days to be onsite. We are asking people to act like adults and make that determination - on their own - where they can work most effectively in terms of that onsite /offsite mix.


Here is what we are seeking: We are seeking a Business Systems Analyst that has some solid data experience. From a 'data experience' perspective, I am seeking any experience with Master Data, Sql, or Business Intelligence. This role is for someone that has been business facing that can speak in 'business speak' to the business side of the house and 'tech speak' to the technical side of the house. The team you will be working on is, essentially, the 'glue' that holds internal transaction systems together. This team (the one you will be working in) handles BI & MDM and all that wonderful 'data stuff' that make the company run. Let me give you a scenario that you would be working on. This particular client has a dozen business processes in their sales process. These processes are all independent. So, when a sales agent asks about commissions, these guys need to look at multiple systems to answer that question. If there is one process that travels across all the systems from a quote to cash standpoint, that would be great. Another example is...for an incoming lead, you probably don't need 40 fields to be filled out, you probably need 10...what are those 10? These are the kinds of projects you will be working on here. You will be spending a good chunk of your time working with key stakeholders and users to execute on those key BA / SA tasks of requirements gathering, documentation & process flow diagramming.


We are not seeking someone who just 'takes orders'. Rather, we are seeking that person that will ask the right questions, pivot off the answers, challenge assumptions, and come up with ideas from what they gather. We dont need a 'developer'...rather, we are seeking that BA / SA with key skills in that world of Data Management to indicate to developer what to develop.


Here is what we are seeking:

  • At least 7-8 years of Business Systems Analyst experience. That BA/SA experience should include efforts where you led developers from both a technical and functional requirements gathering perspective and following those projects you were a part of from start to finish.
  • Deep experience with process flow diagramming and documentation.
  • Experience with BA or SA projects that involved Sql data, and interfaces of applications.
