Since 1989, our firm has provided industry leading expertise in tower crane and mobile crane engineering, demolition engineering, structural alterations, and site safety plans. We work on New York’s most iconic and historic buildings, including the Freedom Tower, Hudson Yards, Carnegie Hall, the Time Warner Center, 432 Park Ave, the Waldorf Astoria and Yankee Stadium.

Your Key Responsibilities

HISA has an opening for an entry level or experienced architectural/structural designer who will work closely with our engineers on some of the most interesting construction projects in New York City. This position has room for growth and increasing responsibility as you develop expertise in our work via on-the-job training. Prior experience is preferable, but the most important quality in applicants is the motivation to succeed. You will be responsible for the following:

  • Prepare design, development, and construction documents for approval and construction.
  • Perform non-routine and complex drafting assignments requiring applications of standardized drawing techniques.
  • Develop knowledge of N.Y.C. Building Code.
  • Coordinate all details, dimensions, notations, and specifications as required.
  • Reviews shop drawing and product submittals for general conformance with the structural engineering documents.
  • Manage time and workload to meet project task deadlines and commitments with regular interaction and direction from project leaders.
  • Confer with client or client representative in conjunction with the project manager to determine project requirements and direction.
  • Perform field tasks including but not limited to measure and draft existing conditions, photography of affected areas and verification of information received from others.
  • Perform other related duties assigned by senior staff.
  • Maintain a professional environment and promote a positive image for the company in all interactions with colleagues and clients.

Qualifications

  • Associates or Bachelor’s degree in architecture, graphic design, engineering, or a STEM field.
  • High level of proficiency with AutoCAD is preferred.
  • Construction field experience is not required but is a plus.
  • Must be willing to make occasional site visits and fieldwork.
  • Must be highly motivated, willing to take on new challenges and able to work with team members and independently.
  • Proficiency with Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Must be able to perform complex tasks and handle multiple priorities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively (written and verbal) with co-workers and clients.
  • Ability to work independently as well as a collaborative partner on a team.
