Position Summary

This recruitment will be used to fill over 100 part-time (a max of 20 hours per week) Student Food Service positions for coffee shop, MU restaurant, and store locations across campus within University Housing and Dining Services in Corvallis.
Note that some of these locations are only Monday-Friday and some will require weekend hours.These applications will go to dining center hiring managers, when there are no retail positions available. Position Duties Dining position : Must provide exceptional, attentive customer service. Assist customers and answer questions regarding menu items, ingredients, allergens, and current prices. Learn to cook and prepare menu items using raw products and meats as well as most common food allergens, including gluten. Learn to use food service equipment including knives. Appropriately portion, assemble and serve menu items to order, including special diet items. Make beverages and stock products and/or ingredients. Operate cash registers; receive cash, process OSU ID Cards and credit cards, process meal perqs Restock guest items and maintain cleanliness of work area, serving area, and seating areas. Help in all tasks related to the preparation, service, storage, and transportation of hot and cold foods, as well as raw and prepared foods, using the food safety principles of HACCP. Assist in dish washing, equipment sanitation, and frequent cleaning tasks to maintain a clean and safe work environment. All employees are regularly reassigned as needed to assist in other work areas on occasion. This position typically has a consistent schedule. *International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center. Additional Required Qualifications Employment Eligibility Requirements () Valid Oregon Food Handlers Certificate within 30 day of employment and must always maintain a food handler’s card while employed with UHDS. Must be able to understand both written and verbal instruction, to ensure employee and guest safety Preferred (Special) Qualifications Previous work experience preferred. Working Conditions / Work Schedule Students are expected to work 8 to 20 hours per week. Available shifts will vary. Schedule to be determined by hiring unit and student’s availability. Consistent, good attendance is crucial for stability and day to day business needs. Poor attendance can result in job loss. Must follow schedule and be on time, in uniform, when shift begins. May require walking, standing, bending, and stooping for extended periods. This is a physically active job in a kitchen and retail environment. There may be long periods of standing on a hard floor, working with commercial kitchen equipment, fluctuation in workflow, temperature, and noise level.
