The primary purpose of Medication Aide is to provide direct nursing care to the residents. This position will prepare and administrator medications as ordered by physician and approved by the state board. The Medication Aide will assist supervisors in the care and management of the unit.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and administer medications and treatments
  • Verify the identity of the resident before administering the medication/treatment.
  • Order prescribed medications, supplies, and equipment as necessary, and in accordance with our established policies.
  • Must not give the initial dose of any medication.
  • Ensure that an adequate supply of floor stock medications, supplies, and equipment are on hand to meet the nursing needs of the residents.
  • Make and take written and oral reports/recommendations concerning the activities of your shift as required.
  • Accurately document in the clinical record administration of medication or refusals by patient
  • Report all discrepancies noted concerning physician's orders, diet change, charting error, etc., to RN supervisor.
  • Notify the nurse if a resident requests a prn medication, only give after the nurse has assessed and determined the need for the prn medication.
  • Sign, date all entries made in the resident's medical record.

Requirements:

  • State Tested Medication Aide having passed an approved course
  • Must maintain CPR certification
