Grant Manager – Disaster Recovery Job Description

Civix is a professional services and technology firm with offices in New Orleans, Louisiana, Indiana, Florida, and Ottawa, Canada. Civix’s Community Planning & Resilience division includes community planners, federal grants management experts, and software services providers who deliver diverse services to support our clients. Our portfolio includes projects within urban planning, housing, community engagement, disaster recovery, hazard mitigation, climate action, and grants management. 

TheGrant Manager – Disaster Recovery role requires an individual with a background in disaster recovery, community resilience, and federal grant management. The Community Planning & Resilience division’s work includes urban planning and grant management projects and the Grant Manager – Disaster Recovery position will provide support across the program areas. 

We are seeking a candidate that is/will be located in the Gulf South. This is a remote position but will require 80% or more time onsite with customers in the Mobile, AL area.

Primary Responsibilities

Supportdisaster recovery and resilience planning processes and the development of related planning and grant management documents. 

Draft memoranda, reports, and assessments based on research and analysis.

Provide project management support to clients and internal project teams. 

Interface directly with customers, officials, and other project stakeholders to advance planning processes.

Review and summarize federal regulations, including Federal Register Notices and HUD guidance. 

Provide technical assistance to HUD grantees and their subrecipients.

Support the design and implementation of federally funded housing, economic development, infrastructure, planning, or public services programs.

Support the design, management, and facilitation ofcommunity engagement processes.

Independently manage project tasks and timelines for project teams.

Support training and capacity building for customer personnel. 

Conduct research and analysis for clients, stakeholders, and the public.

Required Skills and Experience

Minimum of a bachelor’s degree and three years of experience working on one more of the following activities funded with CDBG, CDBG-DR, CDBG-MIT, CDBG-NDR, or HOME: disaster recovery, mitigation and resilience, community development, housing, economic development, infrastructure, planning, or public services. 

Ability to manage multiple projects and work well under pressure.

Strong analytical skills and capable of retrieving, analyzing, and synthesizing data in a meaningful way.

Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).

Ability to work independently and a strong commitment to team environment.

Ability to meet project milestones and delivery schedules.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Excellent interpersonal skills for facilitating relationships with elected/appointed officials or other decision-makers.

Creative problem-solving skills to gather relevant information to solve complex problems.

Experience working with diverse populations and communities to engage them in planning and development processes.
