Civil Engineer- Rail Designer

We are actively looking for a Civil Engineer- Rail Designer - Entry to Junior Level to join our Atlanta office. As part of the Rail Group, the Rail Designer provides rail design engineering support for the Freight & Economic Development team’s rail rail-related projects, productions, and programs. Oversees and implements conceptual planning of rail facilities and track connections for new and expanding rail users. Promotes rail-inclusive development planning for industrial sites and parks accessible by the serving railroad. Analyzes industrial property and articulates technical development and design challenges to project stakeholders.

Duties and responsibilities:

Follows best rail design practices and techniques, as well as emerging and leading-edge technologies. Conducts site visits, documenting and reporting field conditions and findings. Prepares draft and conceptual design drawings and assists with completion of field work. Advises clients with rail facility design, considering track geometry and capacity, safe rail car handling methods, and articulates rail related operations. Produces 2D concept plans and schematics and confidently communicates rail design options to the project team. Assists with 3D rail animations to visually represent rail operations to enhance our ability to visually communicate with clients and decision makers.Other duties:

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, related field or equivalent professional experience 0 to 4 years of experience in rail/transit or transportation design Valid Driver’s License and a clean driving record MicroStation or AutoCAD design software experience Microsoft Office software experience Software OpenRoad / OpenRailCivil 3D Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation) Availability and willingness to travel All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST 800-171 Moffatt & Nichol uses E-Verify and employment is contingent upon the legal ability to obtain employment in the U.S. and to present the required documentation at hireWorking conditions:
