POSITION SUMMARY:
Irving H. and Jane W. Goldberg Legal Services at CJE offers free legal services in civil matters to older adults and those caring for them. We are seeking a full-time attorney to focus on advanced care planning (powers of attorney, wills, and TODI), housing stability, and economic security, as well as to educate various groups about legal rights and services for vulnerable low-income individuals. (This position entails no litigation.) At CJE SeniorLife, our Legal Services department is committed to providing holistic legal assistance to older adults in the Chicago area with low to modest income. We understand that legal issues can significantly impact a person's overall well-being, affecting areas such as housing, healthcare access, and financial stability. Our approach involves not only addressing immediate legal concerns but also connecting clients with our other CJE departments to ensure comprehensive support for their health, social, and critical needs. By making legal help readily available, we aim to empower our clients, protect their rights, and enhance their quality of life.
POSITION DUTIES, FUNCTIONS, AND STANDARDS:
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following (other duties may be assigned):
· Give direct legal assistance to clients and prepare necessary documents.
· Stay informed and understand legal regulations, rules, and laws.
· Oversee and mentor volunteers, students, and interns working on clinic-related tasks.
· Participate in program outreach and marketing efforts as needed to increase client base.
· Participate in CJE agency committees as needed.
· Participate in agency professional development programs, seminars, or conferences to increase professional knowledge.
· Other duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
· Possess a valid license to practice law in Illinois.
· 2+ years' experience in a legal services setting, or estate planning, preferred.
· Detail-oriented with excellent oral and written communication skills. Demonstrates strong organizational abilities and efficient task management.
· Passionate about client interaction and committed to delivering exceptional legal counseling and support.
· Shows dedication to CJE SeniorLife's target population of older adults and overall mission of enhancing quality of life.
· Willing to occasionally travel to outposts or events in Chicago and the surrounding suburbs.
· Comfort using CRM or client management software, Microsoft Office products, and adept at learning new technologies.
· Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
CORPORATE COMPLIANCE
Complies with safety policies and procedures; Adheres to laws regarding the protection, use, disclosure, and release of client and CJE business information; Attends required in-services; Records documentation timely, accurately, and thoroughly.
