Job Summary: The Forklift Technician will be responsible for the preventative maintenance and emergency repair of all forklifts.
In addition, the Forklift Technician will assist other Maintenance Mechanics with the repairs of other equipment, such as scissor lifts, boom lifts, etc.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine, emergency, and preventative maintenance of forklifts.
  • Repairs and maintains various types of forklift trucks including electric, gas-powered, and propane powered.
  • Tests forklift trucks to ensure repairs are completed correctly.
  • Schedules and performs routine maintenance for forklift trucks.
    Ensures batteries for electric forklift trucks are fully charged.
  • Interpret manufacturer's technical manuals to perform the necessary maintenance and repairs needed.
  • Troubleshoot forklift problems to include brake, electrical and hydraulic systems, detect imperfections, potential problems, safety issues and/or malfunctions.
  • Able to diagnose and repair mast and attachment components.
  • Good working knowledge of brake systems and tire/wheel changes.
  • Ability to work on LP, gas, and diesel systems.
  • Replace broken or defective parts from stock parts and/or order replacement parts for major repairs.
  • Reassemble forklifts and make all necessary adjustments for effective and safe operation.
  • Perform safety inspection of forklifts prior to being released back to the work floor.
  • Cleaning of equipment and other areas as required.
  • Ensure the work area and methods used in carrying out job duties meet safety requirements.
  • Maintain an organized and neat work area.
  • Competent to complete legible service documents and logs for preventative maintenance tasks.
  • Learn new technical information and techniques to stay current with changing technology.
  • Must be familiar with OSHA regulations regarding the operation of a forklift, and all other equipment.
  • Must possess the ability to be focused on observing proper operating procedures and safety practices.
  • Other duties as assigned by Whirlwind Steel Buildings.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Must have high school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Two or more years of experience in a related field, including maintenance of various lift trucks such as Hyster, Kalmar and Yale with lift ratings up to 16,000 lbs.
    and 60,000 lbs.
  • Manufacturing, automotive, military, or recent trade school graduates with applied skills is a plus.
  • Must be able to work weekends, holidays, and night shift if necessary.
  • Ability to work well in a collaborative team and/or independently with minimal supervision.
  • Have analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Be reliable, responsible, and dependable while fulfilling obligations.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Must be able to complete test and maintenance reports
  • Have experience working under OSHA regulations.
  • Must be able to work safely and follow company policies and procedures.

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to work in a shop environment with exposure to extreme weather conditions.
  • Ability to frequently move materials up to 50lbs.
  • Ability to stand, bend, lift, pull, push, reach, twist, and walk for an extensive period of time.
  • Must be able to adhere to all PPE requirements.

Night Shift Schedule

  • Monday through Friday 5:00pm-3:00am.
  • Weekend as needed.
  • 10-hour shifts, but not limited to it.
