Security Police Officer

The Security Police Officer provides first response to emergencies; enforcing federal law and assimilated state law; conducting mobile patrols, inspections and searches; conducting traffic enforcement and traffic investigations; initiating an arrest and transporting persons; perform protective service work such as guarding NASA owned or leased buildings and property; protecting NASA equipment and material; controlling access to NASA installations by employees, visitors, and residents; and other duties as assigned. The SPO is armed with a side arm, shotgun, or other weapons as required.
This position is located in Wallops Island, VA.
Responsibilities
Will participate in Guard Mount, receive assigned post, and copy any extra instructions. Will carry out general and special orders for post assigned. Will communicate via radio, telephone and orally according to orders. Required to interact and escort as required with public and government personnel. Will provide access control, traffic control and conduct walking and motorized armed security functions. Will be responsible for cleanliness of uniform and equipment assigned. Will follow applicable standard operating procedures and NASA regulations pertaining to security of weapons, buildings, personnel, NASA property and equipment. Will conduct personnel, vehicular, building, & facility checks and package & parcel inspections. Must be able to work flexible hours to include weekends and holidays if needed. As a critical position will be required to report and remain available for emergency duty in expectation of a hurricane, other disaster, or declared emergency. Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Must be at least 21 years of age. Preferred 1 year military or law enforcement experience NTOA Basic tactical course or another recognized tactical course prior to standing an armed post NBTS required prior to standing an armed post ICS-100 required prior to appointment ICS-200 required prior to appointment Honorably discharged (If Applicable) Possession of a Diploma or certificate as a graduate of a Federal, State, or local law enforcement agency; or military services recognized basic law enforcement or physical security training academy preferred, but not required. Must be able to possess and maintain a valid driver’s license. Must be able to obtain a DoD security clearance, but not required to start. Must be able to meet drug testing and alcohol – free workforce requirements to include random drug and/or alcohol testing.
