Job Summary:

Manages a work area or specific function to ensure that a high quality, cost-effective product or service is delivered by the department in support of the hospital's strategic plan, and the function's goals and objectives.

Contributes to the development of meaningful goals and objectives for the department that align with the strategic direction of the organization by analyzing needs and developing recommendations. Communicates the goals and objectives to the staff and monitors progress during the year.

Establishes performance expectations; coaches, develops, and evaluates performance to enable employees to be successful in contributing to the achievement of individual and department objectives. Informs and advises superior on hiring and disciplinary actions.

Creates and maintains effective, positive customer service relationships by identifying customers and their needs, ensuring that needs are met, responding appropriately to difficult interactions, and educating the staff on the importance of quality customer service. Effectively and continually communicates with the staff, management, and customers to facilitate the flow of information necessary to the success of the employees, department, function, and the organization.

Uses resources effectively and efficiently to achieve the goals and objectives of the department within established budgets by determining future needs, monitoring actual progress, and allocating resources to meet a changing environment.

Contributes to the efficient operation of the unit by establishing priorities, eliminating impediments, and resolving problems. Continually strives to improve the quality and productivity of the department by establishing priorities, monitoring performance measurements, identifying and recommending improvement opportunities, and eliminating obstacles.

Actively seeks opportunities to model teamwork through collaboration both within and outside the department in support of the organization's objectives.

Assumes responsibility for self-improvement, in collaboration with superior, by identifying, communicating and seeking resources or instruction/validation to meet own learning needs, and is self-directed in maintaining currency of validations.

Qualifications

•BSN required, MSN preferred.
•Experience managing and developing employees.
•When applicable, CT RN license required without restriction, to the extent allowed by State and Federal law.
•Specialization in function and/or specific work experience typically required.
•Strong communications skills required - both written and verbal
