The phlebotomist is the primary public contact for the laboratory. The position collects and distributes laboratory blood and culture specimens and performs associated clerical and registration duties. This position has access to confidential patient information and direct patient care. This position does not have access to funds.

Duties/Responsibilities

Accurate patient identification, collection, receipt, and distribution of laboratory samples according to established procedures. Requires highest phlebotomy skill level including speed, accuracy, and interpersonal relations. Accurate ordering, verification and documentation of testing procedures. Successfully interacts with patients and family members of all age groups. Responsible for maintaining laboratory compliance through daily duties and actions. Trains and orients phlebotomist trainees. Must be capable of working all Adena sites and shifts, if needed. Customer service representative to the Adena Health System providing guests, physicians, and employees with warm greetings, accurate information, and exceptional laboratory service. Must be trained in performance of drug screen collections and BAT. Phone calls answered promptly and courteously with calls directed and messages delivered appropriately.

Minimum Qualifications (include):

High school diploma or GED, required. Certified as a Phlebotomy Technician (PBT) by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) CPR - Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and/or Electrocardiogram (EKG) as needed depending on position.  Previous experience as a Phlebotomist or three months on the job training to learn basic phlebotomy skills.
