Grocery Manager

Primary Responsibilities

To greet customers, respond to customer questions/requests/complaints and explain store policies in a courteous manner. To make recommendations regarding the hiring, firing, discipline, promotion, and evaluation of all grocery department personnel. To orient/train all new grocery department employees and retrain employees when necessary. To develop a weekly labor schedule in a timely basis, for all grocery department employees for approval by the store manager. To implement the weekly display plan for end-aisle merchandising and ad promotion. To supervise/order all grocery products and supplies to minimize out-of-stocks while maintaining the desired grocery inventory turns. To supervise/perform preparation of the backroom for receipt of merchandise, checking of the load for shortage/overage, sorting of cases according to aisle or pallet for stocking, stocking of merchandise on shelf, building of displays, storage of back stock. To supervise/perform cleaning of store floors, check lanes, carts, restrooms, parking lot and shelves, and safe use of cleaning equipment and chemicals. To supervise/perform the loading of stocking carts/pallets, transportation of cases to the sales floor either on stocking carts or pallets, matching of the case strip to the shelf tag/stock, placement of merchandise in the designated shelf/display position/area, the "face/front" program for the front row of each display, the immediate pick up/removal of all broken containers, packing materials/boxes from the sales floor or customers’ pathway. To supervise/perform the counting and recording of individual items of merchandise for inventory. To supervise/perform the manual price-marking/labeling of merchandise without a UPC code. To supervise the movement of damaged/unsalable and "returnable" products from shelves to the backroom, sorting of the materials into bins and the return of damage to the reclaim center. SUPERVISION RECEIVED:  Grocery manager reports directly to the Store Manager

Qualifications

Above and Beyond Customer Service High School Diploma or Equivalent Prior supervisory experience Prior grocery experience

Specific tasks

Work on tile or concrete for a maximum of 8 hours in duration. Move to supervise: the receiving of product, movement of product to the floor or storage area, opening/cutting of cases, inspect product quality, sorting of cases/merchandise, building of displays on the shelf and at end-aisles, the allocation of space in grocery categories, order merchandise and supplies, cleaning and maintenance, removal of trash/debris from the department, price-marking and signage throughout the store, approximate maximum yards.
