CNC Machinist

Pay: $19-35 per hour

We are looking for a highly skilled CNC Machinist in Bay City.

Job Duties

  • Verify the shop tag is the job that is running next on that machine
  • Verify print part number and revision level match the shop tag.
  • Dimensionally and visually inspect stock to insure the job can be made from what was ordered, and that any previous operations have not left concerns with workmanship (non clean-up, dents, nicks, scratches, missing features.)
  • Verify quantity to manufacture and numbers of parts or amount of stock.
  • If applicable, verify serialization sheet matches serial numbers on attached documents.
  • Gather tool holders and designated tooling necessary from the set up sheets. When vending tooling from tooling cabinet check to be sure computer and actual stock match. If not notify management to get this issue corrected.
  • Gather vises, or fixture to be used in order to stabilize part as needed per setup sheet.
  • Load material into machine and pick up work origin per set up sheet.
  • Make sure holders are clean and free of burrs or chips.
  • Report any damaged or broken holders to your supervisor
  • Load tooling into machine per set up sheet.
  • Set tool length offsets per set up sheet.
  • Retrieve program from server or USB stick depending on machine that is being used. All set up sheets will note where the program is located and the program name if retrieving from the server, only a program name will be given if programs are loaded on to a USB stick and the stick will be attached to the set up sheets. If a program cannot be found, see your supervisor, or programmer. Programs for the lathe are on disk in that department and recorded in a notebook to aid in retrieval.
  • Verify all measuring tools are in good working order and provide you with an accurate reading.
  • Run program, keeping in mind to treat every first part as if it were running for the first time. (Watch distance to go, verify tool is correct diameter, slower rapid and feed rates are acceptable at this time.)
  • Check features as they are complete to ensure you are manufacturing the part to print. If you are unable to do so, STOP and seek advice from a member of management.
  • Once part is complete break all sharp edges and clean part as needed.
  • Fill out appropriate in process report inspection report
  • If you are unsure of customer expectations see management, if no member of management is available refer to supplier requirements manual located in programming room
  • If required notify inspection that your first piece is completed, and necessary paperwork is completed for the in process inspection report. Manufacturing may not continue until inspection has recorded dimensions and signed off on your first piece.
  • If parts are found to not pass inspection a rejection tag must be attached providing information as to the nature of the discrepancy.
  • If a part does not pass first piece return back to step 15, if you are unsure of how to correct the discrepancy that inspection found, seek managements advice immediately.
  • Once a part is found to be with in print specifications and approved by inspection, run parts according to setup sheet, program, and print.
  • For lots totaling 10 or more, check a min. of every 5th part.
  • If a part is found to be out of print at any time during the run, all previous parts up until the last accepted part will be checked. A rejection tag will be placed on all parts that do not conform to print.
  • Once parts are completed place parts in heat treat, black oxide, coating, or finish inspection bench per prints requirements. If unsure of where completed parts go check with management.
  • Tear tooling down that you will not need for the next job and return to programmer to be taken care of.
  • Be sure machine and work area are clean and orderly before leaving for the day
