The Department also administers family preservation and prevention services, foster care, and child support throughout the State of Indiana. Role Overview : 

As the Child Services Assistant, you will be responsible for performing standard clerical/administrative support duties in a Local Office within the Indiana Department of Child Services (DCS).


Salary Statement : 

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $31,668 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

A Day in the Life:

The essential elements of the role are as follows: 

Maintain a variety of files, update case files as new material is collected, ensure that information is kept organized and that all necessary case documentation is retained in compliance with the record retention policy.  Prepare reports involving tabulations and balancing of posted data and simple arithmetic calculations.  Answer inquiries over the telephone or in person concerning regulations or procedures within specialized area.  Receive and prepare replies to routine correspondence.  Operate office machines related to specific area of work.

What You'll Need for Success:

You must meet the following requirement to be considered for employment:

Working knowledge of administrative work specific procedures.  Working knowledge of DCS procedures involved in the gathering and compiling statistical data or information and the preparation of standardized reports  Ability to be tactful in dealing with persons over the telephone and in person.  Ability to make clerical decisions regarding appropriate procedures within specific program area.  Working knowledge of computer software systems and data entry procedures.  Ability to make simple arithmetic computations.  Ability to maintain confidential records.  Working knowledge of legal policies and procedures pertaining to the field of DCS child welfare. 

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.
