This is a fully benefited, full-time Harvard University position that has been funded for two years. There is the possibility of renewal, contingent on funding, university priorities and satisfactory job performance.

Reporting to the Associate Director of University Disability Resources (UDR), the Communication Access Realtime Translation (“CART”) Captioner and Coordinator is a two year term, full time benefited position that provides real-time captioning for students with disabilities in classes, academic activities, and at University events using a stenographic machine, computer and real-time captioning software. The CART Captioner and Coordinator also manages scheduling and coordination of additional captioners to facilitate the provision of accommodations for the University community. This position requires occasional evening and weekend work. 

This position will also involve education of community members on the captioner role and how to work effectively and appropriately with a captioner. It will include coordinating with faculty and teaching staff to obtain materials necessary to prepare for captioning content that may at times be technical and/or complex. Preparation for academic setting captioning may include researching and becoming familiar with technical terminology and maintaining and updating a captioning dictionary. Editing transcripts will be required at times.
