General Job Description This is a professional position responsible for supervising the administration of the athletic training rooms and coordinating the treatment of injuries to student-athletes under the supervision of the team physician. Regularly exercises discretion and independent judgment when performing work. Essential Job Functions 1. Oversees the application of therapeutic modalities and treatments in the training room.
2. Aids in the prevention of athletic injuries by administering preventative taping, purchasing and fitting special protective equipment, and maintaining safety conditions at practices and competitions.
3. Designs, implements, and coordinates the rehabilitation program for players after surgery, with off-season injuries, or preventative exercise, in response to pre-season screening results.
4. Administers emergency procedures to injured athletes in assigned sports during practices and games.
5. Maintains records of treatments and injuries of all student-athletes seen and treated in the training rooms. Supervises the distribution of approved medications under the orders of the team physician.
6. Assigns and supervises graduate and student assistants assigned to the training rooms.
7. Coordinates the scheduling and conduct of pre-season athletic physicals for all student-athletes.
8. Prepares reports on injured student-athletes for the head coach and provides periodic progress reports on the rehabilitation of injured players.
9. Makes arrangements for training room supplies and equipment to be transported on trips.
10. Conducts training sessions and supervises graduate assistants in the performance of athletic medicine activities. Non-Essential Job Functions 1. Makes appointments for student-athletes to see private physicians, as necessary.
2. Remains on 24-hour call to sports-specific players for treatment and/or counseling, as assigned.
3. Meets with recruits, as assigned, to tour department training rooms and discuss injuries and rehabilitation programs.
4. Attends university, conference, National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA), and other organizational meetings, as assigned.
5. Adheres to all applicable NCAA, conference, and university rules and regulations.
6. Travels with teams to away games, as required.
7. Performs other related duties as assigned. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.

1. Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, university policies and procedures.
2. Knowledge of, or ability to learn, policies, procedures, and guidelines established by the conference and the NCAA.
3. Must have working knowledge of professional standards and regulations.
4. Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
5. Ability to set priorities and complete assignments on time.
6. Ability to operate a personal computer with a general understanding of application software, and an understanding of the Internet.
7. Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships with coaches, students, staff, and external constituents. Physical Demands Required Education Bachelor’s degree in kinesiology, health, exercise science, or a related field is required. Required Experience and Training One year of related experience is required. Experience in collegiate athletic training is required. NATA Certification, Athletic Trainer licensure in Texas, and Instructor level certification in CPR and First Aid is required. Candidates without current Texas certification will be considered if certification can be obtained prior to start date. Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree is preferred. Min Pay Rate Mid Pay Rate Salary Information Commensurate with Experience, Salary Grade - 10 Specific Job Requirements/Duties for this Posting One position will be the primary athletic trainer for football and one position will be the primary athletic trainer for women’s basketball and tennis. Yes Benefit and Retirement Eligibility This position is eligible for participation in the Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS) retirement plan, subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
