New England Biolabs is inviting applicants for the position of Purchasing Manager. This individual will lead the collaborative effort to define NEB’s purchasing and supply chain strategies for all areas within NEB. Successful candidates will bring extensive knowledge of procurement and/or supply chain management within the life science industry.

Primary Responsibilities:

Lead a team of 3+ buyers and contractors as required.

Evaluate critical raw material workflow and determine optimal inventory levels, as well as appropriate purchasing and replenishment strategies considerate of supplier and supply chain dynamics.

Negotiate contracts directly with suppliers, ensuring the most favorable outcomes for NEB with regards to price, quality, and level of service.

Lead all aspects of the procurement process including: developing bids, requests for proposals, signing of supply agreements with vendors, and all purchasing activities.

Seek, identify, evaluate, and recommend appropriate primary suppliers and, when necessary, secondary suppliers.

Collaborate with NEB’s Quality Assurance Department to qualify suppliers and participate in vendor audits when necessary.

Formulate and execute a comprehensive cost savings strategy as part of an overall Supply Chain strategy, that delivers on other critical factors such as quality and service.

Using knowledge of industry best practices, identify trends and alternative vendor opportunities to support NEB’s evolving business.

Lead the Purchasing team forward in process improvement strategies, looking to reduce waste, errors, and transactional time and effort, and enable a strategic approach to supplier and supply chain management.

Develop and implement departmental KPI’s that can be used to manage and improve the effectiveness of the supply chain organization.

Effectively participate in multi-departmental task teams to improve operations, including leading the Material Review Board (MRB).

Required Qualifications and Experience: 

Bachelor’s degree required.

7 + years of procurement and/or supply chain experience.

Proven ability to effectively build and lead teams.

Experience in warehouse management and production/operations.

Possess strong communication and leadership skills.

Have knowledge of supply chain operations, including, but not limited to, vendor development, contract negotiation, procurement, and raw materials management.

Have a proven track record of managing vendor relationships demonstrating negotiated savings, high quality, and service.

Possess strong interpersonal, influencing, problem solving, and time management skills.

Possess proven analytical skills, with an ability to use data to identify patterns and trends that can in turn inform areas of opportunity or risk.

Knowledge of Quality Systems: ISO 13485 and ISO 9001.

Experience with an ERP/MRP system, SAP (required) and eProcurement Punchout (preferred).

ISO 13485 auditor training (preferred)
