Position Summary
The Department of Medicine at theUniversity of Illinois Chicago is seeking a Research Associate II to conductresearch activities for NIH-funded studies of a meditation program delivered bymobile health (mHealth) technology: to youth who have been placed on probation inIllinois, Oregon, and New York and to juvenile justice officers in Illinois.The studies are housed in the Center for Dissemination and ImplementationScience (CDIS). A key strength of CDIS is its engagement with traditionallyunderserved populations and its commitment to addressing health disparitiesthrough community partnerships and rigorous research.

AIM (Action In Mindfulness) is ameditation app that was adapted for relevance to the lives of young people whohave been placed on probation through collaboration with a wide range ofcommunity stakeholders (, justice-involved youth, mediation experts,juvenile justice officers). We are currently concluding a feasibilityrandomized controlled trial (RCT) with youth placed on probation to testeffects of meditation in this population. We are also evaluating implementationoutcomes. AIM is funded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA)R00DA047890. In the next phase of this research, the AIM app will be tested ina multi-site feasibility trial in juvenile justice systems in Oregon and NewYork. The study is fully remote and does not require extensive travel. Thisresearch is funded by the National Center for Complementary and IntegrativeHealth (NCCIH) R01AT012892.

AIM+ is a meditation app that is being adapted for use by juvenilejustice officers during the workday. We are running a mixed methods feasibilityclinical trial of the adapted app. During the trial, officers will participate inecological momentary assessment (EMA) at the start and end of the meditationprogram to capture real-time emotion dynamics in the workplace, and willcomplete measures of mental health and burnout. AIM+ is funded by the NationalCenter for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) R34AT012078.



Duties & Responsibilities

Conduct participant interviews, obtain assent, parent permission, and informed consent, according to established research protocols. Implement data collection protocols and procedures to guide participants through web-based data collection, primarily via REDCap. Conduct recruitment of participants across multiple avenues, including direct and indirect, virtual and in-person methods. Assist in outreach with juvenile justice entities, community partners, and the research team, including building new relationships and maintaining existing partnerships. Assist in developing study forms, measures, protocols, and training guides. May assist in research interviews including scheduling, recording, notetaking, and drafting summaries. May assist with presentation of weekly updates on participant recruitment, retention, engagement, and randomization/enrollment. Support IRB submissions and maintenance of UIC IRB approvals. Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in psychology, public health, social sciences or related field required. A minimum of one year experience working on a research study. Experience working with youth from vulnerable populations, including justice-involved entitities, preferred. Ability to manage multiple tasks. Strong interpersonal and customer service skills. Requires excellent communication, organization, and presentation skills. Strong computer skills are required.  Knowlegde of research protocols, principles and procedures; knowledge of aspects of clinical trials such as screening, interviewing; knowledge of experimental design, statistics, computer applications and data management; oral and written communication skills; knowledge of a science such as psychology or public health; ability to identify, produce, organize, evaluate and interpret data; knowledge of ethics and regulatory procedures ( informed consent, IRB applications, data safety and monitoring plans) involved with clinical trials and other research; ability to work as a member of a project team; knowledge of tasks required for research.

Preferred Qualifications
Advanced degree preferred.  Experience working with mHealth technology preferred.  Experience in REDCap, MAXQDA, and/or SPSS preferred.

Working Conditions

Currently primarily remote. General officeenvironment approximately 1-2 times weekly (in-person requirements may changewith time). Requires flexible hours (night/weekend) to accommodate researchparticipant interviews. Regular travel not expected but may occur on occasionaround previously scheduled events (, at juvenile justice center). Requiressitting for extended periods of time, standing, visual acumen, manual dexterityand fingering for working with computer keyboards.
