HNTB is seeking a highly motivated Project Engineer with experience in mechanical/HVAC design and construction, with a focus on transportation facilities & buildings. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of executing mechanical building system design for both new and existing facilities. They should have the ability to take responsibility for technical design aspects of projects, including investigation, evaluation, and recommendation of design solutions.

The candidate should possess excellent communication skills, strong problem-solving skills, time management skills, attention to detail, collaboration skills, creativity, and flexibility. The successful candidate must also be able to learn quickly across varied design projects and project delivery types, have a thorough understanding of building codes and guidelines, have an ability to navigate code requirements for multiple jurisdictions, and the ability to navigate the diverse requirements of agencies and governmental clients is preferred. As a member of the team, you will contribute to the successful project delivery for a diverse range of projects for HNTB’s clients.

This opportunity entails being responsible for the production and modification of design calculations, technical reports, engineering plans and specifications for assigned projects. This position consults with the project manager to perform research, development, calculations, design and delivery. Applies engineering techniques, procedures and design criteria for projects ranging in size and complexity. Leverages technical knowledge and experience to address design related issues or concerns, working closely with the project manager through creative problem solving, interactions with clients and by completing tasks to meet the project schedule. Develops conceptual and detailed designs and calculations to support the project completion using current drawing and technical tools, programs and software. May mentor, train and review work of junior engineer staff and provide constructive feedback. As a member of the team, you will contribute to the successful project delivery for a diverse range of projects for HNTB’s clients

What You'll Do:

  • Responsible for the planning and distribution of discipline-specific work, and adherence the to the schedule and budget on projects.

  • Assists in marketing responsibilities, including proposal generation.

  • Assists with the development of scope of work and level of effort for projects and/or assignments within discipline.

  • Oversees completeness and accuracy of project team’s work within the technical discipline. Guides and mentors team to overall project objectives.

  • Coordinates technical aspects of project with client counterpart and teaming partners at staff level for work within the discipline.

  • Works closely with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

What You'll Need:

  • Master’s degree in Engineering and 5 years of relevant experience, or

  • PhD in Engineering and 4 years of relevant experience

What You'll Bring:

  • Planning, Coordinating and Conducting project specific field visits.

  • Applying engineering techniques, procedures and design criteria for projects ranging in size and complexity.

  • Leveraging technical knowledge and experience to address design related issues or concerns, working closely with the project manager through creative problem solving, interactions with clients and by completing tasks to meet the project schedule and budgets.

  • Developing conceptual and detailed designs and calculations to support the project completion using current drawing and technical tools, programs, and software.

  • Assist in construction administration as needed, including reviewing shop drawings, answering RFIs, and attending site visits

What We Prefer:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering

  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering

  • PE Licensure in PA or other state(s)

  • Minimum 8 years in Facilities & Building Design

  • Minimum 3 years in Transportation/Transit Facilities Design

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, or Microstation and other relevant design software

  • Proficiency in additional software such as Bluebeam, load calculation software such as HAP, Trace, IES, CHVAC, etc., and other software is a plus

  • Plumbing/Fire Protection Design Experience

  • LEED/Envision certification a plus

  • Experience in construction administration is a plus​
