Overview

Princeton University Campus Recreation seeks to improve the health and well-being of the University community through the core principles of fitness and wellness, healthy competition, lifelong skill development, and community-building. These guiding principles aim to improve the quality of life on campus and strengthen the ties between and among undergraduates, graduate students, faculty/staff, and community. Campus Recreation provides educational and leadership opportunities through instructional programs, intramural activities, sport club teams, and student employment for diverse levels of skill and ability.

Reporting to the Associate Director of Campus Recreation for Facilities and Operations, the Assistant Director of Campus Recreation for Fitness will serve as an active member of the Campus Recreation staff and provide leadership to the area of Facilities and Operations/Meadows Campus. This 12 month, position will be primarily responsible for the management, supervision and administration of the Meadows Campus Fitness Center which will serve the needs of students, faculty, staff and guests of the University. The position will oversee one full-time professional, as well as hourly and student employees along with other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

Facilities Operations:

 Manage and supervise the overall operation of the Meadows Fitness Center. Supervise a coordinator of recreational operations, numerous part-time employees (fitness supervisors, personal trainers and an equipment reconditioning specialist) and student interns from other schools. Schedule staffing of a facility that’s open seven days per week. Operate within a budget while implementing cost-saving measures wherever possible. Plan for a systematic replacement and upgrade of equipment on a regular basis to include assessing the needs of the facility and soliciting competitive bids from vendors. Be a positive resource of information for the Meadows Fitness Center, Campus Recreation and Princeton University in general. Enforce all policies and procedures regarding the usage and safety standards of the facility. Communicate all department and University risk management policies to employees. Assist in the development of a risk management program to ensure a safe environment for participants. Assist in facilitating annual preventative maintenance projects.

Fitness Education:

Oversee all administrative aspects of the Health and Wellness Learning Center. Includes recruiting speakers, scheduling, marketing and facilitating workshops with the intention of providing members of the campus community diverse health and wellness educational opportunities. Oversee a multitude of programs and offerings (wellness screenings and fitness programming/events). Be a resource of information on fitness and wellness issues. Maintain/update information on the Campus Recreation website that pertains to the fitness area.

Personal Training

Oversee all administrative aspects of personal training to include linking clients with trainers, maintaining waivers and medical histories of clients, tracking the accounts (hours) of clients and paying trainers. Hiring and training a diverse portfolio of qualified personal trainers.

Other Duties:

Perform other duties as assigned. Adhere to Ivy League and NCAA rules and regulations.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree. Minimum of 3 years' experience in recreation management/fitness operations. Strong organizational skills Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Self-motivated. Ability to perform functions with accuracy and attention to detail. Ability to handle multiple assignments and changing priorities Excellent customer service skills. Proficient with MS office products (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint). A high degree of proficiency for writing and communication skills is essential. First Aid, CPR & AED certifications required subsequent to hire. Membership in NIRSA or other professional association for higher education preferred.
