Basic Job Functions:

A Caster Strandtender/Slidegate Operator is a teammate on the caster deck that is required to safely conduct normal operations of the Caster and all other evolutions. He will ensure the caster is set-up to operate in a fashion to safely produce as many quality tons as possible within each shift. Also, he will safely conduct reactive and preventive maintenance of equipment to ensure efficient operations. Some of the operational functions include:

Preparing and inspecting the strand Using a cutting torch and welder Handling and tending to mold powder and tundish flux Overhead crane operations

 Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

Minimum Qualifications:

Previous Melt Shop experience

Preferred Qualifications:

General understanding of the Casting process Mechanical aptitude
