Job Responsibilities:

The School Culture and Climate Manager will play a critical role in improving student performance at the Condon School by promoting a positive, safe, inclusive and affirming learning environment that fosters the intellectual identity of ALL students. In collaboration with administration, staff, and school leadership teams, the Director of School Culture and Climate will lead the development and oversight of restorative practices, strategies, and programs designed to strengthen school culture and climate and keep the school community safe. This will include supporting individual and school-wide crisis intervention, creating proactive behavior systems, protocols, responses, and logical consequences in conjunction with the principal and leadership teams. This will also include adult capacity building around restorative practices. Through direct service with students and coaching support with staff, he/she/they will develop a strong rapport with students, families, and faculty at the Condon School.

Responsibilities of the Director of School Climate and Culture include, but are not limited to:

Climate/Culture System Coordination : In collaboration with Climate and Support Teams, refine and implement school-wide systems and structures to promote a safe, positive, inclusive, and affirming school community in which all students see themselves as thinkers, learners, and achievers. This includes: 

Manage and align school community on school culture expectations using a multi-tiered system of support including a strong core and tier 2 and 3 interventions. This involves working with staff to support students who have been temporarily removed from class due to extreme dysregulation and escalation to mitigate exclusion and ensure consistent access to the least restrictive environment at all times.  Co-facilitate the Compass Team, the Condon school-wide climate team, to promote positive school climate and culture throughout the building. Collect, analyze, and share data with the Compass Team to assist in developing strategies for decreasing the number of behavioral incidents and referrals for support.  Develop and support teachers and staff in the fidelity of implementation of social emotional learning and restorative practices and strategies in whole class and small group settings at tier 1. In collaboration with the SEL Team (social workers, school psychologist), ensure students are receiving appropriate Tier 2 and Tier 3 ongoing social and emotional support. In collaboration with the SEL Team, oversee behavioral/crisis response process and corresponding action steps (e.g. behavior support plan development, case management coordination, etc.)  Continue to seek and build new partnerships in support of a positive school climate, with a focus on maximizing and aligning resources to meet student needs. Facilitate disciplinary hearings as needed.

Direct Service

Serve as a member of the school-wide SEL team, along with the school social workers and school psychologist. Throughout the school year, plan and facilitate small groups to support pro-social skill development as identified through SST and Whole Class Reviews, utilizing clinical best practices and collaborating with the school-wide SEL team. Provide individual crisis response/de-escalation and support to students and communicate with such families as needed. Maintain an open line of communication with families to support the child and family’s needs.  Build rapport with students who need behavioral support, checking in with students daily and providing relevant updates to teachers and families. Plan and facilitate restorative sessions with students and/or with students and staff in response to conflict and/or issues as they arise.

Operations : In order to promote a positive school climate, ensure the smooth, safe and orderly functioning of arrival and dismissal, breakfast and lunch periods, hallways and other common spaces, student attendance, transportation, and safety drills. This includes: 

Be present throughout the building to provide daily positive and accountable touchpoints with students, families, and staff. Assume responsibility for every single student’s success by holding all students accountable during transitions, breakfast, lunch, arrival, dismissal, testing, etc.  Oversee school uniform and Yondr cell phone pouch systems and accountability. Facilitate and support at critical times of the day, such as arrival, breakfast, lunch, and dismissal, in addition to overseeing cafeteria & lunch staff and bus monitors.  Maintain data entry into SIS, Panorama, and other databases for attendance, family communication, and behavioral incidents.  Coordinate and communicate with grade level teams regarding individual students and grade level climate and culture.  Coordinate school transportation including arrival and dismissal schedule, daily log, alternative transportation, bus support, communication with First Students and bus drivers. Support late bus arrival/dismissal procedures, including student supervision, communication with families, communication with transportation, etc.  Work in collaboration with the Student Success and Support Teams to monitor BPS Attendance Policy, including ensuring teachers are following the policy, students are appropriately referred to SST and working with the Supervisor of Attendance; case management of students w/ attendance issues. Performs other responsibilities as requested by the Principal.

Family Engagement

Build strong relationships of trust with families to foster effective home-school partnerships. Build the school’s capacity to establish and maintain consistent, effective, and timely two-way, linguistically-accessible communication with families in a variety of ways, including in-person conversations, email, phone calls, and TalkingPoints. Build the school’s capacity to establish a culture of family engagement that allows all families to feel safe, welcomed, respected, and engaged as community leaders. In collaboration with the leadership team, support the implementation of key family engagement structures, including Principal Coffee Hour, Family Support Team, and various other events.

Qualifications - Required

Education:  Bachelor’s degree  At least 2-3 years experience managing elementary programs/school leadership and data collection  At least 3 years experience in urban school system working with a racially, culturally, and linguistically diverse student body  Experience working with students with disabilities, strong behavior management skills, and belief in restorative practices. Demonstrated passion for and commitment to the Condon’s vision, core values, educational model, and full inclusion.  Commitment to and belief in the capacity for the success of all Condon School students. Flexible and able to multitask; can work within an ambiguous, fast-moving environment, while also driving toward clarity and solutions. Demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities and guiding investment in people and systems Willingness to work autonomously, collaboratively, and/or under the direction of senior staff, as needed  Strong written and oral communication skills; proficiency with Microsoft Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and Google Drive Suite  Comfort and familiarity with student information databases (Aspen/SIS, Panorama, etc.)

Qualifications - Preferred

Strongly preferred oral and written proficiency in Spanish Master’s Degree in social work, counseling, or related direct service field Experience and/or training in restorative practices

Terms:  Managerial Tier C

NOTE: School-based managerial employees will work 223 days between  July 1st and June 30th  each year. The 223 day work-year will include the 180 days in which school is in session, and the additional days will be determined by the employee and the principal or headmaster of the school. This position is subject to the City of Boston residency requirement.

School-based managerial employees are not eligible for vacation time or compensatory time. In the event of school cancellation due to snow or inclement weather, school-based managerial employees need not report to work.
