Position Details

PURPOSE:  To provide Special Education and Intervention Services for core content areas, such as reading, writing, and math

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelors degree in special education. Must have an elementary or secondary provisional or permanent certificate or valid substitute teacher permit.  Each teacher will file a copy of all college grades and certification with the board of education. Experience working with children with special needs

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide special education instruction for students who have an Individualized Education Plan (IEP). Provide Tier 3 general education supports which provide intense individual interventions for few learners with highly accelerated, or severe and persistently challenged, academic and/or non-academic needs, as determined by the Multidisciplinary Team. Attend to the Whole Child__-cognitive, behavioral, physical, social and emotional needs of learners who have been identified as at-risk of failing. Assess the students individual needs and comply with their Individual Education Plan (IEP).  Collaborate with IEP Team members, including parents/caregivers, to write individualized education plans. During these meetings, referrals to local support agencies may be made. Ensure all students are safe, occupied and supervised in the classrooms and other settings at all times.  Consult as a resource person for classroom teachers regarding strategies, adaptations, and resource materials. Maintain accurate and complete student records; prepare and submit all required reports. Each teacher may be responsible for other duties as assigned by the Board of Education, principal or superintendent. Support and utilize the Multi-Tiered Systems of Support, which are listed on the MDE Practice Profile and are expectations at Onsted Community Schools. The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the District.
