UDR, Inc. is now hiring a Total Rewards Professional to join our team at our corporate office in Highlands Ranch.

GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES:  Responsible for the implementation and administration of all benefit and compensation programs, oversight of weekly and bi-weekly end-to-end payroll processing, leave of absence program, 401(k), disability benefits, and open enrollment in accordance with federal/state employment laws and internal company policies and procedures.  Act as liaison with outside vendors, providing leadership to and directing the payroll, compensation, and benefits teams.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:  Reports to the Vice President – Human Resources and Corporate Counsel

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Benefits Administrator, Senior Compensation Analyst, Payroll Manager, Payroll Analyst, and Payroll Administrator

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:       

Benefits:

1. Lead the evaluation, recommendation, and administration of benefit programs for salaried and hourly associates.

2. Lead the process of developing budgets, selecting vendors, and analyzing benefit plan options to determine the most cost-effective benefit programs based on premiums, fees, and associates’ cost and participation.

3. Manage benefit vendor relationships, including requesting special services, addressing customer service issues, and reviewing all new vendor and plan contracts to ensure accuracy and completeness.

4. Ensure compliance with Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) and the Affordable Care Act (ACA) by remaining current on state, federal, and local laws and regulations pertaining to benefits and implementing necessary plan changes.

5. Prepare required and requested reports and filings with federal, state, and local regulatory agencies.

6. Verify the calculation of the monthly premium statements for all group insurance policies and maintain statistical data relative to premiums, claims, and costs.  Resolve administrative problems with the carrier representatives.

7. Supervise the 401(k) Plan deferrals and company match reporting and funding of the automated bi-weekly contribution upload to the Plan Custodian. Maintain files of all 401(k) and Benefit Plan data through recordkeeping and retrieval methods ensuring compliance with government regulations. Coordinate the 401(k) annual audit process.   

8. Manage annual benefit open enrollment process.

Compensation:

9. Oversee management of company-wide Compensation Program to ensure company compensation policies and procedures are applied fairly and consistently.

10. Manage job description approval and ensure compliance with all Federal and state labor laws and regulations.

11. Ensure oversight of updating salary ranges within the compensation program to ensure competitive wages in each geographic market.

12. Ensure the accuracy of associate data entered in the HRIS system.

13. Manage the annual performance management process for Corporate and Operations positions.

14. Coordinate with accounting on the annual merit and bonus payment process.

Payroll:

15. Establish uniform methods and practices, including workflow, time frames, performance standards, and business practices to enable all associates to be paid with appropriate controls and accurate charging to proper fund sources.

16. Develop goals and objectives, work with the Company SOX team, and analysis of payroll service operations, and develop short- and long-range plans.

17. Analyze payroll service operations and develop short- and long-range plans to integrate payroll systems, services, and personnel.

18. Ensure that payroll processes, procedures, service delivery, and records management are uniform, and consistent and adhere to federal and state regulations and guidelines.

19. Interpret for associates and management, staff policies and regulations as they relate to the payroll function; keep abreast of new developments and changes in these areas. 

20. Explain payroll calculations and deductions to associates and managers, investigate payroll problems, and make appropriate corrections.

21. Generate daily, weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reports for high level internal clientele.

22. Act as liaison with outside computer payroll processing company for problem resolution and error correction.  

23. Provide back-up for processing manual checks electronically and sending them to the      Treasury Department for electronic processing. 

Management:

24. Hire and train new staff and develop staff to maximize potential.

25. Supervise direct reporting staff in accordance with overall company policy.

26. Monitor staff performance including performance reviews and address performance problems through corrective action and dismissal.

27. Approve time records and requests for time off.

28. Assist direct reporting staff to address and resolve concerns or complaints involving job duties and job descriptions, performance standards, relations with coworkers, and relations with supervisors.

29. Perform other duties as assigned or as necessary.

PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Knowledge of organizational policies and procedures. Knowledge of fiscal management and office management techniques.  Knowledge of Human Resources policies and procedures.  Ability to apply policies and procedures to solve everyday issues.      
  • Must be a personable and polished professional with diverse experience in all facets of human resources. Strong interpersonal and personnel management skills. Ability to quickly develop strong internal working relationships. Ability to motivate, develop, and direct people as they work, identifying the best people for the job. Ability to apply the principles and practices of work leadership and management.
  • Ability to comply with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; obtain qualified opinions; enforce adherence to requirements; and advise management on needed actions.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial reports and documents. Performs duties that require strong comprehension, analytical, research, composition, verbal and written communication, and organizational skills, including spreadsheets and word processing software. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.  
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, management, or associates. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple projects simultaneously to meet critical deadlines and clearly communicate findings and advice.                                                     

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  Occasionally lifting items weighing up to 30 lbs.  Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator, and other office equipment.  Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate reports. Regular and consistent attendance on the job is an essential function.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:  Hybrid office environment.  Occasional evening or weekend work.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

1. A Bachelor’s degree in human resources management, related field, or equivalent experience, is required.

2. Minimum ten years’ experience in benefits, compensation, and payroll or related duties, required.

3. Experience and knowledge of ERISA, and other applicable state/federal statutes and regulations required.

4. Demonstrated experience managing and successfully completing multi-state payroll for approximately 1,500 associates, specifically CA.

5. Demonstrated experience working with and presenting to executive leadership.

6. Demonstrated experience in Budget Management.

7. Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license unless otherwise noted.

Salary Range:
• $105,000.00/yr. – $150,000.00/yr., depends on experience

  Bonus Potential:
• Eligible for 17.5% annual bonus potential, based on personal and company performance
