The Tissue Acquisition and Cellular and Molecular Analysis Shared Resources (TACMASR) Core is integrated into the University of Arizona Cancer Center and is responsible for supporting the functions of histology in the performance of routine histological techniques as well as the Biorepository in the process of tissue acquisition. TACMASR also provides support and pathology-related services to UA Cancer Center and University of Arizona researches on a fee-for-service basis through customize, cost-effective, and quality-controlled services including tissue acquisition, digital pathology, imaging and microscopy, histology, immunohistochemistry, and organoid culture.

We are seeking to hire a Histotechnologist II who will be responsible for performing technical procedures and tasks supporting the day-to-day operations of the histology laboratory within the core.

Duties & Responsibilities

Laboratory :

Perform immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence staining using the Leica Bond platform.  Perform histological procedures including accessioning, tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, and staining including special stains, and frozen tissue preparation, sectioning and H&E staining.  Assist with research and development of new procedures and helps keep standard operating procedures and manuals current.  Maintain and operate laboratory and histological equipment.  Prepare reagents and solutions. 

Administrative

Maintain accurate tissue and slide records. Clean and maintain instruments and work areas. Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

Requires the ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously with frequent interruptions while maintaining accuracy and accountability. Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills with excellent attention to detail and documentation skills.  Ability to effectively use computer applications such a Excel, Word, Outlook email and calendar, and database software. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent learning attained through experience required. Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience. Preferred Qualifications Completion of an accredited histotechnology program and certification by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) as Histotechnician (HT). HT or HTL Certification. Minimum 3 years of experience related to the job duties and research.
