The Graduate Assistant, eSports, under the general direction of the eSports Head Coach, will assist the head coach in recruiting qualified student-athletes to the program, instruct and develop the student-athlete in the sport of eSports, game management, and community involvement. Instruction should include, but not be limited to the rules, strategies, and techniques relating to practice and competition in eSports.

Essential Duties include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Coaching, Instruction, and Team Administration (60%)

Assist the head coach to organize and conduct practices during the traditional season (8 weeks in each semester, plus playoffs) for each eSport. Non-traditional (or out-of-season) season practices may be required; Assist the head coach to serve as the representative of the department when working with both in Hood College settings and outside Hood College settings. Assist the head coach in the management of operational budget issues; Participate in uniform and equipment purchase process; Help plan and coordinate team travel; Help develop and implement fund-raising strategies; Assist the head coach to complete in-and off-season scheduling for the program; Work within NECC (and ECAC) guidelines regarding the start of the season, dates of competition, and end of the season; Be able to represent the Department of Athletics at all on-campus Admissions Open Houses and/or other predetermined events; Must have one area of experience with eSports; Other duties as assigned by the head coach.

Recruiting (30%)

Assist the head coach in developing a recruiting strategy to achieve recruiting goals as pre-approved by the Director of Athletics; Work with the head coach and Office of Admission to recruit qualified prospective student-athletes, both incoming freshmen and transfers to Hood College; Must be able to recruit during the summer; Must be able to work weekends & travel.

Site Management (10%)

Represent the Department of Athletics at selected home athletic events.

Proven integrity, leadership, and a thorough knowledge of competitive eSports are required. Candidates should possess a strong commitment and ability to motivate, teach, counsel, and recruit academically qualified student-athletes. Must have a valid driver’s license.

Education and/or Experience

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s degree required. Full acceptance into one of Hood’s graduate programs is Proven successful coaching, with 2-3 years’ experience preferred, preferably at the collegiate level. Knowledge of NECC, or other similar leagues, rules and regulations is preferred. Strong oral and written communication skills are required.

Technology Skills

Computer proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, etc. Proficient with the internet and email. Ability to use available instructional technology resources to effectively teach in a manner conducive to classroom presentation including, but not limited to, the use of audio-visual equipment, computer, educational software, etc.

Language Skills

Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to effectively provide information and positively respond to questions from both external and internal customers both in person and by phone. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

Mathematical Skills

Proficient with statistical and financial concepts. Must have the ability to apply those concepts to tracking, projections, goal setting and interpreting reports. Must be able to draw conclusions from reports and make cost effective decisions regarding programs.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a number of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to work independently and as a member of a group in developing and executing project plans. Ability to work in theoretical arena and apply logic as appropriate.
