Fox TV StationsFOX Television Stations owns and operates 29 full power broadcast television stations in the . These include stations located in 14 of the top 15 largest designated market areas, or DMAs, and duopolies in 11 DMAs, including the three largest DMAs (New York, Los Angeles and Chicago). Of these stations, 18 are affiliated with the FOX Network. In addition to distributing sports, entertainment and syndicated content, our television stations collectively produce approximately 1,200 hours of local news every week. These stations leverage viewer, distributor and advertiser demand for the FOX Network’s national content.

JOB DESCRIPTION

KTBC Fox 7 the Fox O&O in Austin, TX is re-imagining how local news is gathered and delivered. We’re hiring a reporter who loves breaking news and owning the big story of the day. Someone who understands that the role of a reporter must evolve to meet our audiences where they need us. We’re big on non-traditional techniques that bring relevant, memorable, and impactful storytelling to our website, news and streaming apps, social platforms and eventually on linear television. 

The ideal candidate will have an ability to create content in ways that defy conventional thinking about television news. You’ll need to be a self-starter with excellent writing skills and have a vision for how each story will be told for different platforms. You’ll need to be able to shoot and edit video, although this is not considered an MMJ position. Strong live skills and the ability to meet frequent deadlines are critical for those breaking news and severe weather situations which often define the Houston news landscape.

We set big goals for audience engagement on social platforms and the reporter will be given the tools to meet and exceed those goals. We also expect reporters to be adept at using social media to enhance their newsgathering and reach broader audiences while maintaining journalistic integrity. Minimum 2 years of experience on-camera in a medium to major market newsroom is preferred.  We’re a 24/7 news operation, so you must be able to work non-traditional hours, including early morning or late-night shifts, weekends and holidays as needed.
