We are actively seeking a Full Time Chaplain for our Hospice program. We service patients throughout Wyoming Valley PA area. This includes; Lackawanna & Luzerne.

Summary:

The Chaplain will be responsible for the assessment and provision of spiritual/pastoral counseling to patients, families and caregivers. Although Hospice experience would be preferred, it is not necessary.

Job duties will include but not be limited to:

  • Spiritual/pastoral assessment as soon as possible after admission.

  • Spiritual/pastoral support provided in accordance with ongoing wishes and needs of patient/ family.

  • Knowledge of and ability to utilize a variety of religious resources (i.e. prayer, meditation, scripture, etc.)

  • Offer patients/families of different philosophies and religious perspective opportunities to discuss and share their thoughts, feelings, beliefs and values.

  • Coordinate pastoral care done by other pastoral caregivers (i.e. the patient’s pastor/rabbi or a per diem chaplain) and works with other professionals in resolving spiritual/pastoral/ethical issues.

  • Communicates plans and progress to the interdisciplinary team.

  • Work in a team approach with the interdisciplinary care team.

Requirements:

Preferred Seminary graduate or with equivalent degree and with at least 1 unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (2 units preferred)

Experience:

A minimum of two years experience in a health care and|or related pastoral experience of at least two years Experience Desired Demonstrated experience in working with patients and families dealing with life-threatening illness and death.

Skills:

  • Ability to minister to patients and families in crisis

  • Exceptional verbal communication skills

  • Ability to plan, organize, and exercise independent judgement

  • Demonstrated ability to be open, sensitive, flexible and ecumenical.

  • Must possess excellent spiritual assessment skills as well as documentation skills.
